No waffles for me...
« on: October 27, 2010, 03:09:43 PM »
We found our American waffle iron in a box in the garage. I have no idea why we brought it, as it can't be plugged in here. I had the brilliant idea to plug it into our power converter (hey, the converter works fine for the XBOX, so I figured it was a-ok). No. There was a quick flicker, and then the fuse on the converter blew. Whoops. My husband's thrilled with me. :)

What I wouldn't do for a delicious homemade waffle. Anyone tried the McVities Waffles? I saw them at Tesco for the first time the other day...tempting, but they looked a little unappetizing.

You can order a new waffle maker from Amazon.co.uk  and even Argos.  I don't think any store bought waffle is going to be quite the same!

Hmmm, never tried them -- but don't think I'd want to.

They are literally called "American waffles?" If so, that cracks me up. I saw some mustard in a store once that was called "American mustard - Yellow." Sounds delicious.

That just means it's like French's Mustard, which you can get there, but you can also get store brand versions. It's a not very original way to differentiate it from English, French, and German mustards I guess. Which, I suppose, aren't nearly so yellow!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Yeah, we definitely knew what it was. It just looked like a really gross, generic version. I have seen "American" tacked onto other things as well....like at Costco there was a huge thing of maple syrup called "American Pancake Syrup." It's funny.

But that specifically, anyways, may be referring to where the trees were that the maple syrup came from. I buy Canadian maple syrup, which is Canadian because the trees where the syrup came from are in Quebec.  :)

Nope, it's the fake stuff. ;) Don't think there's any real maple in it. I have it in my cupboard.

I use them as a quick and easy alternative for strawberry shortcake.  They are sweet and not substantial enough to be a breakfast waffle, imho.

We used to rely heavily on the frozen potato waffles -- under beans instead of the soggy toast.  Wonder why they never caught on in the US?

Mmmm I love potato waffles!  However, they're definitley not like American waffles- just big glorified waffle fries.
