Applying for spousal visa while on my UK fiance visa.
« on: October 31, 2010, 03:53:31 PM »
Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my situation please :). OK so, my fiance visa was approved back in august of this year and the visa started on august 6Th. I arrived in the UK on the 8Th and we are getting married on the 20Th of November 2010. :D. My visa expires on the 5Th of February 2011. I was hoping somebody could clear a few things i was wondering about :). As soon we are married are we free to apply for my spousal visa? How do we go about applying for my spousal visa for example, is it the same process as the fiance visa? and if so how would that work now that we are in he U.K.? would we send all of our documentation to the consulate in the UK or is it sent to the U.S.A again? Sorry if i sound a little dumb lol, I'm just not to clear on this. Also how long does the application take? we have left ourselves a good 2 months left on my fiance visa so the spousal visa can be processed. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You can apply as soon as you would like after getting married. It has changed since I have done it...it is FLR(m) you are applying for. A quick search shows you can now apply online http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/flr/flrm
You used to be able to do a potal application or go in person and get it the same day (for more money). I went in person as I was anxious to try to get a job asap.

okay according to this you still have the same options

I just wanted to throw in that if you can afford the extra money for it, definitely do it in person! I did mine and it was nice knowing I could work right away.

I do believe now there is a 7-10 day wait after the appointment for the ID card to come through the post, but it's still better than waiting weeks upon weeks for an answer.
