Taking the kids somewhere for Christmas hols?
« on: November 08, 2010, 01:46:45 PM »
My wife and I would like to go somewhere over Christmas with the kids -- not really sure where. It's over a year since we've been in the UK, and have yet to go somewhere all as a family: friends and colelagues always seem to be popping off on little jaunts to Italy and Croatia and Sweden and stuff, and it's high time we did likewise!

So -- have you got any recommendations of interesting/fun places in mainland Europe where a family with kids aged 3 and 6 might spend a worthwhile Xmas break? Not so keen on the idea of Disneyland Paris: more interested in off-the beaten path places. Also, we'd quite happily do a self-catering cottage rental or city-break.

I look forward to hearing your experiences/recommendations!

Sounds like a good question for Yorkshire/Virginia to be popping round & answering.  :D

How about one of the Christmas markets in Germany or Austria? The Irish Times just did an article about them this weekend:
