I did BUNAC from dec 2004 to may 2005.

In regards to the bank acct...I actually still have mine, although there is just about a pound or so in it...:-p

Also, for the National Insurance Number, BUNAC set up the appt at their office, and you just bring in what is required, then eventually get the card, change the address, etc etc...

It does take some effort on your part to find a job, but I would totally suggest signing up with Manpower, cuz that served me well!

How many times can one do BUNAC?  Can you participate in the program as many times as you want (so long as you qualify), or is there a set limit to the number of times one can do it?

You can do BUNAC UK twice, for six months each time. But you have to go back to college for a semester (fall or spring, summer semester doesn't count) inbetween.

I had heard it was twice for the UK, but I wasn't sure if there was any truth to that.  Thanks.  :)

I'm thinking about sending off for my blue card soon (because I'm still in school, I just want to go for the summer of '07).  How long did it take them to send you your things after you sent in the application?

See, that's what I'm worried about.  I'm away at university right now, so all my mail comes to my personal school mailbox.  Does the applicant have to be the person who signs for the package, or is it like FedEx where they just need a signature from anybody at the residence?  (Or in my case, anybody who works in the mailroom).

it can be anyone because it didn't even say who the package was for in my house.  if someone is there when the mail is delivered they can just sign for it or if not they'll leave a paper you can sign and leave on the door saying it's ok to drop it off on your doorstep, or front desk or wherever.

Oh okay.  Phew!   :)

So now it looks like all I need to do is get the reference part filled out and I should be good to go.

I have a bit of confusion about the blue card.  How far in advance should you apply for it?  As in, how long is it valid before it becomes no good to enter the UK on (I think I read 6 months before first entry somewhere?)?  I am assuming it only becomes "activated" once you actually enter the UK, meaning you have 6 months on it from that date, but I'm just wondering if you can apply for it months in advance and have it "just lying around" until you are ready to go.  I am graduating in May '07 and wondered when the earliest I should be (thinking about) applying for it?

I don't know, but I wouldnt worry about apply for it more than a couple of months in advance. I got mine about a week after I applied for it.

If you're planning to go in spring/summer of '07 (which is what I'm doing), BUNAC says not to apply until after November '06.  I have all my stuff filled out and ready to go - I'm just waiting for November to hit so I can mail it off.   ;D

Oh, okay.  I probably won't be going until late summer/fall, so I suppose my wait will be until spring to apply :) Thanks!
