Teething Woes

Ashley I know I'm late to the commenting party, but you're doing the right thing for sure. It is what I'd do, so it must be right, right? har har! N O T H I N G helped Philip except medicine. Henry, however, could be distracted from it, and chewing helped too. Mine were all 4 months old for first teeth though, which meant they couldnt even hold onto something to chew! And sure enough at 4 months old, George is teething too.

Here's an interesting sidenote. Yesterday DD (who will be 2 1/2 on the 19th of this month) had her fingers in her mouth and said 'mommy somthing is pokey' & sure enough she's got another molar coming in. She kept waking last night & I know it's because of this tooth. During the day she's ok, just when she's trying to sleep it disturbs her. So tonight before she goes to bed I'll give her a dose of Calprofen.

Abby seemed to be teething way back at 4 months too. I kept wondering when that damn tooth was going to come through because when she's unhappy, we're all unhappy.

Ashley, being a responsible and caring parent is knowing when medicine is the viable option, instead of just an easy answer.  Teething is something you can't explain or reason with a little on over: it's nature.  Giving your child medicine just so you don't have to deal with them: not so much.

I was totally shocked, it never even occurred to me that you'd give your kids medicine other than when they were ill!

Unfortunately, it's more common than you think.  My SIL's a nurse and has Drs on her ward bragging about how "well behaved" their children are on flights abroad because they're doped up on medicine.  Whether or not it's prescription or not is anyone on the ward's guess...   

Having travelled trans-atlantic with a toddler who was doing our nut in, I can understand why parents would dope their kids up, but it's just not for me.
