I saw somewhere that in order to avoid chaos resulting from people opting for pat-downs, they just had everyone go through the old school metal detectors.  No scanners and no pat-downs meant no chaos.

Typical.  "Hey, let's do this.  No wait, that will make more work for us.  Just forget it."

I nearly missed my flight back to the states last week because I have a hip replacement. They did the pat down, then the wand and then I was escorted to a room for a "body scan." Next thing I know I'm rushing through Heathrow with my name being paged as my flight we getting ready for departure. Next time I'll arrive an extra half hour early so I can be prepared. 
Applied for spousal settlement visa online: 25th Oct
Biometrics: 26th Oct
Apps Sent via FedEx to NY (Priority service): 27th Oct
Visa Arrived at NY consulate: 1st Nov
Email confirmation of UK Visa app opened: 1st Nov
Request for more documents: 16th Nov
