Live vaccine???
« on: November 20, 2010, 07:26:03 PM »
Its been a while since I posted - we had planned to be in England a year ago but that is a different story...

Anyhow, to cut a long story short, my cat was microchipped in April 2009. Then given a one year rabies vaccination, waited four weeks, then blood drawn all as it should be done. He was given a rabies booster again in March 2010 before the 1 year vaccine time period ran out (this time we opted for the 3 year vaccination).

I am starting to get everything together now for our move in March 2011 when I have just read that then rabies vac. should be a killed/inactive vaccine. It seems that our first one, given April 2009, was a mod/live vaccine (Purevax by Merial to be precise). Has anyone else used a live vaccine? Is this going to invalidate all of our paperwork? I'm starting to freak out here....

If he got a killed vaccine at the start of the process, it should be okay, but I would call DEFRA to confirm.

Yikes, this is what I'm afraid of. At the start of the process in 2009 he got a live one, then his booster in 2010 was killed. I'm calling defra on monday.
