FOUND: Saltine Crackers!
« on: November 21, 2010, 01:28:36 PM »
I don't know if anyone else has already posted about this, but I found Saltine crackers at my local Morrisons!  ;D ;D ;D They are an Italian brand called Delsa, and there is a lot of Italian writing on the box, but there is a picture of them on there and you can tell they are definitely Saltines. I tried some as soon as I got home, and they are just as good as I remember (though these are slightly less salty than the brands I remember) and even better, they come in individual packs of ten crackers, which is perfect! YAY!!!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Yeah, apparently a few people knew about these Italian crackers, but I had no idea.  :-[ I'd been complaining about lack of Saltines for years now... haha! Some have said they aren't the same as the American ones, but I haven't had the American brands in so long, I wouldn't have a clue that they were different. They seem the same to me, though slightly less salty, which isn't a bad thing since I'm not really used to salty food anymore, anyway.

I've not found them before now either, but have been making due with cream crackers which are good if you are just eating them on their own or with cheese, but never seemed right in soup.  I don't know why though.  They should be super tasty.

I see these in the shop all the time too. I've never bought them as I'm not a big Saltines fan, but they look *exactly* like Saltines to me!

Aye I always have some Dorianos in my cupboard. To me they are the closest thing to Saltines that you can get this side of the pond. I have tried other saltine look alikes and Doriano continues to be my favourite..  ;D

I heard about those, and looked around for them for a while to no avail. But a place called Hoo Hing (which is like a Costco for oriental cuisine) happens to carry them?? So I stock up when I stock up on soy sauce. :)

I've had the Dorianos and at first I was very excited about them - they would stand in for Saltines, in a pinch.  But the Dorianos are thicker than Saltines, and also Saltines have this sort of crispy/flaky quality/texture to them - that because the Dorianos are thicker, they don't really have that.  I bought the Dorianos once, took forever to use them up, and haven't bought them since.

These Delsar ones are very light and crispy to me (and this was also evident by the amount of crumbs on my belly after eating a pack  :P.) Maybe try those instead of the Dorianos, Mrs R? I had no idea anything remotely similar was available here. Someone could have told me...  :P

:-[ :-[  A while back I remember you complaining about missing Saltines, and thought about those crackers (I saw some at Tesco, but didn't buy them because I don't really miss them), but I didn't because I figured you knew and wanted "real" Saltines!  Sorry!

I hadn't realized people were still looking for these.  I've been buying them for years.  Tesco and several of the stores often have them too.  I like the Morrisons ones best b/c the Tesco ones are a little overcooked for my taste.

ooh I recently discovered the Doriano ones at Tesco.  I'll have to try the Delsar version, too.  I agree about the texture of the Dorianos, but they are just so close that I've been quite happy with them.  I love saltines!

And thanks for posting this!  If I hadn't found the Dorianos totally by accident last month, I'd be kissing your feet now.  ;)
