I love crackers in soup--I used to crumble some over tomato soup, but you have to not do too many or they get soggy.  Nowadays I just eat them on the side and dip them.

I'm curious which brands are the ones I've tried.  I do remember that there was one brand that was distinctly better for me than the others.  I think that's one I bought at Morrisons.  My favorite way to eat them is with a block of cheese to slice onto them.  Ooh, cheese and crackers would go down a treat right now.  I haven't bought any since I was having morning sickness last spring.

I'm happy to  try it, is that why there's sometimes crackers on the table by the ketchup in US restaurants?

Those could be there to put in soup, to eat with salad, or just to eat!  Another kind of cracker that is commonly put into soup in the US is called oyster crackers.  (they don't have any oysters in them - it's just what they're called!)

Growing up, my mom made this weird, kind of thin consistency, chili - probably to make it stretch farther.  And we would crumble up lots & lots & lots of Saltines to put into it, plus adding ketchup, until the chili was like a chili-cracker porridge-like consistency!  :)

Yuuummm...  tomato soup with some crunched up saltines.  I'd love some Campbell's tomato soup right now on this damp & chilly evening.
Oyster crackers are great, they're already bite-size and perfect in soup.
Gosh, now I'm hungry.   :P

I'll have to look for those next time I'm in Morrison's.  Tried the Doriano's and they were okay-ish but not quite saltines.

Oyster crackers! Nom Nom!

I had tomato soup and crackers for lunch! Yum! Mine were cream crackers, though. I think they're the best for soup!

Yes, they usually bring crackers to you with your soup. Usually a mix of saltines and some buttery rectangular Ritz-esque ones. I am a saltines girl all the way. :)

The oyster crackers Mrs. R mentioned taste like saltines but are a convenient soup shape/size. Yum.

Crackers in tomato soup is almost as good as dipping a grilled cheese in tomato soup!  ;D

Almost!  ;)

I love saltine crackers with chili con carne or any kind of soup or stew. I also love them with cheese or peanut butter on top for a snack. Yummy! I'm so happy I found these, it's one of the few things I truly pined away for. I settled for Ritz, but they are a bit too rich and buttery sometimes.  :-\\\\ Plus every time I get a bit sickly I love having saltines with chicken soup and a bottle of Sprite or ginger ale. Mom's cure!  ;D

:-[ :-[  A while back I remember you complaining about missing Saltines, and thought about those crackers (I saw some at Tesco, but didn't buy them because I don't really miss them), but I didn't because I figured you knew and wanted "real" Saltines!  Sorry!

Hehe, it's okay. I don't get out much.  :P It always seems like Morrisons has some surprising American-type things in when I go there. Once I saw some crackers there that looked like Wheat Thins, but I didn't get them and haven't seen them since.  :o I'll always wonder...

Tesco has them. They're their own brand Healthy Living Ancient Grain crackers. :) Taste exactly the same as wheat thins.

YAY! Oh man, I wish I had known yesterday so I could modify the order that is on its way now.  ;) I'll have to remember that. I guess I may have overlooked anything called Ancient Grains, as it doesn't sound too appealing.... lol.

Jewlz - thank you so much for posting this!  :-*

I picked some up today at Morrisons (the Delsar ones - they're on offer 2 boxes for £2).  These are like the real deal Saltines - although just not as much salt on their surfaces, but that's a bonus to me!  The texture is just right (unlike the Dorianos, IMO)!  Yay!  ;D

Oh good! I was wondering why everyone thought they were so much different than the "real" thing... lol!  ;)
