Yesterday I fell on a slippery sidewalk holding my baby, it was really scary. I am feeling the jolt today.

Hope you're OK !

That's what I thought about mine as well  :)

It sounds seriously crazy in England! I'm really happy with the amount of snow we have here (though every time a few more flakes fall I cheer internally) - I can't imagine dealing with that kind of snow!

No we just have freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzing temperatures.

Don't. My mom sent me one last winter as a "surprise" (she needn't have bothered - I nearly choked when I saw the shipping price on top of the purchase price. Plus I think they're really tacky), and the fleece is SO crappy. My first thought was "oh, at least I can cut it up and sew something from it", but I swear to you - if you hold the slanket/snuggie up to the light you can see the lamp through it. It's so thin and useless, we just use it for the cat now. It wouldn't keep anything warm!

You're much better off getting a big, wool ex-Army blanket for warmth, plus a heavy sweatshirt!

I'm sorry you don't like yours.  :(  I've really enjoyed mine.

I want one.  Only if it's leopard print though, so I can be saucy in my snuggie.

The school I work at re-opened today, but I think it was too soon. I couldn't get there because of the icy roads and now I feel all guilty and irresponsible for not trying to get in, which I know is probably irrational considering how bad the roads are here, but I can't help feeling terrified that I'm looking bad at my new job by wussing out on the icy roads.  :-[ :-X :-\\\\ It doesn't help that my boss hasn't texted back and I can't get her on the phone.  :(

I bet half the kids couldn't get to school today.  Don't worry about it.  Teachers sometimes couldn't show up at my school in Iowa.

DH is home again...we went to the train station and met another co-worker and found out no trains are passing Edinburgh so what was the point of going up that far and waiting?

Maybe there are different qualities (fabrics?) of Slankets?

Well I made it into work today - it wasn't snowing then.  Then the blizzard began.  They closed our offices at 11 am, so I was there working from 8-11 am.

Leeds buses (or *some* of them anyway) were running - just not on time or to any schedule, due to the conditions.  My bus ride back to our suburban town took 3 hours!  :o  Then it didn't stick to the regular route through town, staying only to the Ring Road, so I had to walk up from there (about 1/2 mile).  After leaving the office at 11 am - I finally arrived home just before 3 pm.  :-\\\\

I stopped by Morrisons on the way up to pick up a quart of milk, in case the milkman can't get here in the morning.  There was still lots of milk in the store then!  (Didn't check the bread, because I'd set the breadmaker on this morning.)

Oh & bless our veg man's heart - he still made it through this morning with our veg box, because it was here when I got home!  He drives over from Harrogate.

The trains were also irregular.  After my bugging DH most of the day (worried he wouldn't or couldn't get home) - he finally left his office mid-afternoon, and had to wait awhile for a train - but eventually got here.

At least we're both home now!  No idea what tomorrow holds - I hope they call work off!

We still haven't had any snow at all in Exeter :( (or perhaps it should be :)).

Just had a peek at the forecast and it's saying we're going to get light snow overnight, but we didn't do any forecasts ourselves at work today, so I'm not sure of all the details.

I was wondering when you were going to show up!  Seeing as how this is all your fault...  ;) :P

So how many inches/feet have people got? I checked BBC website and all they seem to have [for Leeds] is "heavy snow"  ???  Weather reports in the US always give you projected depths for each area on the map.
My friend in Ann Arbor said it's been snowing there today. It's pretty warm here today -- about 50F -- and we're supposed to get rain. But there were murmurs of colder temps. and possible snow for Friday and/or Sunday.

I'd say we have at least 6 inches here - off to watch Look North now!

I was wondering when you were going to show up!  Seeing as how this is all your fault...  ;) :P

Remember, I'm still only training right now, so I'm not actually creating the forecasts that the Met Office are issuing ;) (the forecasts I'm doing myself at the moment are just classroom exercises using the real-time data). I won't actually be a fully qualified forecaster until next Autumn (then, maybe you can blame me, although I'll only be forecasting for one location - an RAF base) :P!

I haven't been on the thread so much the last couple of days because I'm currently revising for the big exams I have in 2 weeks time - I'm trying to learn all the physics behind what's going on outside at the moment, so I can explain why it's happening (I've been spending between 3 and 4 hours a night studying, on top of learning new stuff at work between 9 and 5 each day!).

(P.S. Plus I feel a bit guilty that everyone else is getting snow, but we've been completely snow-free here so far)

My back garden has about a foot but that's totally my unscientific measurement though.  I don't know what York's 'official' total is.

Yeah, unscientifically, I'd say about 6 inches where we are in Leeds.  On Look North, (for Yorkshire) they said the North York Moors are winning with 2 feet of snow, and also mentioned 10 inches in Doncaster.

According to the weather guy, this is the deepest snow here in December since 1981 - which was the snowiest of the 20th century.  Here is that guy's blog:

We've got 26 inches in our garden (measured with a ruler as I'm completely useless with guessing).
