We have about 8 inches or so here in York.  The best bit is town was absolutely dead today.  Fab day for running errands.  However, I saw a few funny things which I thought I would share.  The firemen were out having a snowball fight.  I saw at least 3 women slip and almost fall (not so funny) because they were wearing high heeled boots.  Plenty of other women were out in similar shoes struggling to walk.  A tiny jeep like four wheel drive vehicle trying to pull a huge white van out from where it was stuck.  The kids here must have a snow day because there were a few of them sledding.  And most interestingly of all, not even a third of the busiest car park in town was full.  There were maybe 10 cars in it!

I will never understand the aversion to sensible/appropriate footwear, in consideration of the conditions at hand.  You can bet I'll be commuting to work in my walking boots tomorrow...so attractive!  ;) :D

Exactly!  I was out in my walking boots and this woman almost fell in front of me and I just thought, 'what are you doing you crazy person?'  She was just going to the shops, it's not even like she was going to work.

Right so I have a Yak Trax question...  I got a pair this year, but it says there must be ice for you to wear them, to never wear them inside or on surfaces other than ice (no good on black ice because it's not thick enough).  What about compacted snow surfaces, or snow over ice, etc?

I mean - who has time to be whipping those things on & off their boots (or shoes) while en route somewhere, just because the surface you're walking upon changes?  I'm confused!

I wear mine on black ice, snow, and everything in between.   I've always gotten good traction with them.

Definitely don't wear them inside -they are way too slippery on anything other than carpet!!

They make a nails on the chalkboard sort of feeling if I am just wearing them on concrete, so I try to walk on grass if there is no ice.  But I only wear them if there is a serious layer down.

The snow has started melting here in our village, but we are right on the coast, so it doesn't usually stick as long here.  :)

Ooooh... lucky you.  It started snowing again here in the afternoon and now the slush is re-freezing.  I think it's going to be nasty here for a while yet before it gets any better.  I know you guys had it pretty bad though Jewlz, so here's hoping it continues to melt and is gone soon!

Okay - thanks!  This is all good to know.  I don't mind taking them off the once when I get inside the building where my work offices are, or once I get home - but didn't want to be taking them on & off all the time!  Plus when the website said 'ice only' - no black ice, no this, no that...then I was kind of, well wtf?!  We have snow now & frozen slush around/under the snow, so I'm thinking tomorrow might be my Yak Trax virgin outing, on my way to work.  Of course, when I bought them a month or so ago, I thought - right, now that I've got them - we probably won't have a bad winter (I was hoping!).  :P

Dude... I think I spoke too soon. It is all crazy slushy outside, but damn, it's bitter out there, and the wind is howling like crazy plus thunder! It's definitely going to freeze over again tonight and the weatherman just said we should expect another five inches tonight!  :o

On the plus side... "School's Out for Winter! School's Out Forever!" I just got another text from my boss that I get another day off tomorrow!  :)

Haha... I just went by mother in law's house to take their dog out and I could barely get up the giant mound of snow in front of their door... LOL. Today all the snow was starting to melt, so it all slid off the rooftops and landed on top of all the pathways, so they are all buried in a foot of snow. This is crazy!
