Please help me find a housecleaner
« on: August 24, 2004, 12:28:40 PM »
So, I had a great housecleaner in the States.  I miss her and her sometimes partner.  They cleaned my 1800 sq ft home in 3 hours, put laundry in, stripped beds, made beds...they were like hotel cleaners as they didn't require one to pick up all the toys and whatnot from the floor prior to their arrival.

I've searched and searched and found nothing here.  I thought I could do it myself but the baby and toddler keep me running my ars* off just trying to keep them safe, fed and semi-clean or semi-clothed.  And happy.  Can't forget that! :)

I'm scared to use someone listed on a card at the Post Office.  But the big companies that I've met with say it will take 3 hours to clean the house AND absolutely everything must be picked up first, they will not pick anything up.  What will they do?  Hoover, dust, clean out the fireplace, mop the floors, toilets, sinks.  For 90 quid.  I paid $90 for the housecleaner in the States.

Any ideas?  I'm kinda desperate.  We rent the Rug Doctor and do that ourselves but really, I need more help to keep the house presentable!

Have you tried advertising in your local jobcebtre for someone? Like most things I expect you will find house cleaners charge more here than in the US.

We've never used the service but a lot of people I know have - it is local (so not much help to you I'm afraid) - but they only advertise in the local newspaper - have you checked there for ads yet? Either that, or running your own ad?
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!
