Why the difference between lasagne and lasagna? Anyone know?  ???

I only realised there was the 'a' ended spelling recently. :-[

Tuna fishcakes, pickled peppers and maybe some spinach.

Italian pluralization.  :)

Lasagna is singular (so one sheet of lasagna)

Lasagne is plural (so multiple sheets of lasanga)

:)

That's the official Italian rule, but in English, I've seen them used interchangeably.  Same with panini (multiple sandwiches) which should usually be panino (one sandwich).  Don't get me started on shops outside of Italy advertising 'paninis' - sandwicheses (double plural).   ::)  I know it's locally acceptable (outside of Italy), but it's incorrect....  :-\\\\

Aha! Now that makes sense to me, as one might be less likely to talk about a single sheet of lasagna. The o to i pluralisation I vaguely remember, but hadn't made the a / e connection - thanks!

As for the paninis thing - panini's is worse to me..... :-X Eek!

Nicoise salad.

Yikes.  Panini's?  That's triply bad!   :o

o to i pluralisation is masculine

a to e is feminine  :)

I looked it up a bit and it seems lasagna is more popular in North America whilst lasagne is more common in the rest of the world.  :)

I don't think it was common when / where I was in Canada, mostly, but hey ho, maybe it was just me.  ??? I did live for a long time in a historically Italian immigrant neighbourhood, so....

But my Italian is officially rubbish!  :P

I wish I only ate one sheet of lasagna!  :P

Yes, in the US, it's 'a', in the rest of the world, it's an 'e'. I've always spelled it with an 'a' my whole life, so that's what I'm going with.

I think we're going to Nando's for dinner tonight.

Had Aubergine, chillies, tomatoes and beetroots from the garden, so added red lentils and it's now simmering to make a (hopefully nice) curry

Turkey meatloaf with sundried tomatoes and feta, risotto, and steamed green beans

This is the meatloaf I made and it was crazy delicious!

I ended up not making risotto because I didn't have enough arborio rice, but it would have been the perfect slightly cheesy side dish.

Steaks (wish I could get sirloins on the bone here) with really bland mexican rice from a "celebrity" chef, bacon potato tater tots from iceland (forgot what they were actually called) and garlic mushrooms.  Thankfully it was the last package of that awful rice bought loads of :)
