Definitely more than an IA Tami. So incredibly sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is as hard as losing a human

You can pay for a service that will notify you (and even book you, I believe) if an earlier slot opens up. I used this and it worked!

I didn’t know that! I’ve left it with my driving instructor so if anything opens up, they’ll switch it for me and just let me know  :)

I'm sorry for your loss, Tami.  Emily looks like she was a very patient and loyal dog... the best friend your daughter and cat could have had.  I wish this massive ocean was a little less massive so we could more readily spend time with the people who matter in times like this.  :(

So sorry to hear about your pup, Tami. It seems like we get to share their lives for such a short time and then suddenly they are gone.

Thank you everyone.  She was an amazing doggo. Definitely more than a dog. The impact she made in my daughters life is immeasurable. This is a big loss. :(

I think this is classified as a first world problems IA. We ordered an Indian takeaway tonight. I got my usual biryani that's pretty mild and doesn't hurt my tummy. Husband went for a Naga. And now I have to deal with the after effects with no air freshener.

The other day I got a speeding ticket. No big deal, ignored one of those variable speed limit signs on the M25.

Turns out, I've actually got to mail my dirvers license back to them because it's the stone age.  Not sure why, since every time I rent a car I have to get a print out of any endorsements, and I'm not sending it to the DVLA.

The dumbest part is that apparently it's insecure for me to SEND my license by normal mail:

But totally fine for them to send it back to me by second class mail.  Except it's really not, so they refuse to accept responsibility for any losses.  Handy for them!

I'm confused by the whole thing... you have to submit your driving license because of a speeding fine?  What do they do with it?  How long will they keep it?  That sucks, Jimbo.  I'm sorry this happened.

... and I fear for my (inevitable) first UK ticket, as I couldn't drive in the US without cruise control.  I can't pay attention well enough to adhere to the speed limits without a little help, and my cheap eBay special car doesn't have it.  Variable speed limits can bite me!  :P

Don't sweat it, it doesn't mean I can't drive.   If I get stopped, I'll just have to give another form of ID, like a council tax bill, debit card or letter from an actioneer.  I'm not kidding, I recently had to provide a certified copy of my ID and the list of people who could certify it was straight out of the middle ages.  An auctioneer or postman  was OK, but a real estate agent was not.

I am curious as well what they want to do with it, since they are aren't the DVLA.  I can't imagine they will get the DVLA to print evidence of this ticket onto a new license and then send it to me, so I can't see why a copy, or even just the number is not good enough.  I can only guess it's more British pretend security where they confuse inconvenience with security.

I wouldn't fear your first ticket so much, you'll get to go to Speed Awareness Class which is actually it's own special adventure.  It's just like high school driver's ed and you'll make new friends.  It's really just like "The Breakfast Club"

That's not so bad, then.  I didn't get to take high school driver's ed.  I could make up for that missed life experience.  :P

I have an IA.  My 4 year old Dell p26e with a 250GB SSD to replace the stock HD, running Windows 10 just developed a major fault.  It seems to be a problem with the power supply.  Maybe.

Initially, the laptop was just dead and unresponsive (after a random and abrupt shutdown leading to this state).

Now it is repeatedly attempting to boot at random intervals, but not succeeding.  I can't stop it, except by removing the battery and unplugging the AC adapter so any residual power is depleted and it's forced to give up.

If I hold F8 during the boot attempt, it shows me the boot options menu (F2 for setup, F12 for boot options), but the laptop shuts off before it has time to respond to either of those inputs.

I did get to a warning screen on a couple of cycles, which no longer appears (of course it responded to THAT keystroke!   ::) ).  I've attached a photo of the warning screen.  As you might have deduced, I pressed F3 on one of the cycles, and I haven't seen that screen again.  I miss it... at least then my computer was communicating with me.  :(
