It's insane.  I brought back a box of Entenmann's donuts to work and they were $5.39!
I have unshopped more stuff from my shopping trolley after thinking,  "Do I really want this? It is so expensive. I can buy that for £2 at home and it's $6 here. No .. don't really need it. Back it goes."

I'm with my babies. And I'm not freezing. I see the sun. I am driving. It's always a great time.

Yesterday I got a text from my kid's school - "Please check your email for important information about the upcoming parent teacher conference"

I check my email, it says "please open the attached pdf for important information about the impact of corona virus on parent teacher conferences"

So I open the pdf and it says "Because of the corona virus, there will be no hand shaking at the upcoming parent teacher conference"

FFS!

I hurt my foot a couple weeks ago. Was blown off at urgent care, it got a bit better and then went "snap" again over the weekend. Went to GP Monday and they ordered an xray. It's supposedly not broken, but it's horribly painful even after 2 days of staying off it. Shoes hurt, sheets hurt, everything hurts. I sent a message to get the xray results and they said they'd schedule a phone appointment for next steps and.... Crickets. In the US even if you go to urgent care with a sprain they treat you. Here they say "wait a few days it'll get better or follow up with your GP". GP's don't care unless they can ship you to a fracture clinic. How on earth do you get treatment for MSK issues in this country??

Good question.

I've been paying privately to see a massage therapist for the muscle spasms associated with a very old herniated disk injury. It helps get them relaxed and if they've not been in spasm for too long, the relief can last weeks. Otherwise, it's every week.

My GP issued me naproxen. Which isn't OTC here, so it's good they did write a script for it. Their other suggestion was a stronger pain med, which I don't want. What I need is PT, but apparently naproxen is going to be it from the NHS.

Good luck with it, Margo - hope you feel better soon~

I'm in the US for 2 weeks visiting the kids. My IA is the price of food here. I keep forgetting how expensive it is. (Groceries as I'm cooking back at the family home. Not talking about restaurant food at all.)

It gobsmacks me, always. Milk, so expensive.

Not gonna help you margo down in England, (Hope your foot feels better soon!) but Nan, I've used the NHS Scotland's musculoskeletal helpline before and it's been very helpful. Gets you into PT waiting lists too. https://www.nhsinform.scot/care-support-and-rights/nhs-services/helplines/musculoskeletal-msk-helpline

I don't know if it's appropriate for you, given your underlying medical issues.  But there is a accident and injuries unit at Brants Bridge open 7 days a week 8am to 8pm for walk in issues.  X-rays on the spot, fracture clinic support, stitches, etc.

I went there when I first injured it, they wouldn't even examine me fully or xray... I had the xray Monday, and since its not broken apparently not being able to put much weight on it and it throbbing like hell when not elevated doesn't matter and I don't deserve to be seen (or get braces or anything). Going to an urgent care place or ER with a chronic health condition almost universally means being blown off. After I finally got through the receptionist today told me to go to the ER but it's pointless if it's not broken. It's not like they'll do an MRI on a foot in A&E. I have a telephone appointment with a GP who has never seen me on Friday, but hopefully will be able to find a private podiatrist before long because I need my feet.

Mrrrrr. Still in the cycle of everyone blames everyone else resulting in no care for me. I've now written PALS because this is getting ridiculous. If I'd just been put in a boot when I first went to urgent care I'd probably be fine now. That first doctor needs to be reprimanded for not listening and not caring, but the NHS needs to sort the rest of their care pathway when things don't go quite as they should. (GPs aren't commissioned to care for acute injuries.)

Not the end of the world, but I slightly burnt the top of my bread because the foil "hat" I put on to shield it blew off in my tiny fan oven.  Most of the bread is fine, and the burnt part doesn't look much worse than a trip through the toaster, but the house doesn't smell like fresh-baked bread.  It smells like toast.  Not quite what I was going for.  :(

Well, I was cleaning the window ledge in our kitchen, which is behind the sink, I had left the water running so I could rinse the sponge and I forgot to take my bust into account...

A wet t-shirt contest was not planned for my Saturday afternoon.

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
