Having to use the X-ray scanner when going through security at Houston Intercontinental Airport this morning and being told to raise my right arm higher. A shoulder injury makes this really painful, but I gritted my teeth through it as the last "pat down" at this airport was rather too friendly!

And being asked if I had an American visa in my US passport, wtf? Its a US passport, I am a US citizen even if I have a British accent. How dumb can a person be?

As horrible as it is to hear other people having job search/hiring woes, it's also a bit of a relief to know I'm not the only one.

I've come home positively seething. Between this job and my constantly noisy neighbour, I feel on the verge of losing it and taking it out on someone with a kitchen knife.  ::)

It's not just me at my office having problems. Numerous people have been reduced to tears recently because the management are so inconsiderate in the way they treat us. It's the most poorly run business I've ever worked for, and how I failed to notice that in my interview slightly concerns me. And they just ignore my suggestions to help improve things. Then there's the fact that I've been at this job for over 8 months now and have learned NOTHING. I'm at the start of my career in a rapidly evolving market, but feel I'm falling behind all my peers at other companies.

I'm already in a sector that's difficult to get jobs in (publishing) and am trying to make the move into an even more competitive area (editorial). After yet another rejection email today, it just feels like everything is against me.  :(

I totally agree with you, especially on the languages thing, I always thought knowing multiple languages would really boost your employability, but it doesn't :(

I would say that we're having a really hard time hiring a receptionist :( We want someone friendly who greets everyone as they come in, who wont mind getting the milk in when we run out, answers the phone/door, coffee for visitors, and makes sure we don't run out of pens.

I'll gladly take that position off your hands cheesebiscuit! ;D I have no aspirations to work in the game industry so I won't passive-aggressively seek a designer/producer position through being a receptionist. We'll have a little bit of a hurdle with that tier 2 nonsense though...

My IA: Family members who have never paid rent in their life, who still mooch off their retired parents, have never held down a job for more than a few months at a time won't stop patronizing me... Everyday I just want to shout stop demoralizing me! [smiley=dead.gif]

If that job were in New York, I'd say that sounds great! Or, you know, if you want to sponsor me for a T2. ;)

Reading the last couple posts has cheered me up some.  I'm amongst the lot of people struggling to find a job so nice to hear I'm not alone! Misery loves company!  [smiley=bigcry.gif]

I think you should hire me as your receptionist Cheesebiscuit.  I'll get the milk! Plus I have game design experience and would love to at least work in that environment again even as a receptionist  ;)

My job related IA today:  Applied for a job as a website tester for the county.  Job posting ended, I heard nothing.  So I use the contact info on the job ad and contact manpower about it.  (Gives a specific person to contact and the job number).  Lady says they aren't handling council contracts any more after April and to contact this other place.  I contact the next place who has no idea about the job and has me contact this other place.  I know it will get no where, by now it's been a month and I don't really care about the job,  but really, it amuses me.  Honestly, the lady at manpower should have been able to give me the info but I think since they are out of the contract soon they don't give a flip or are annoyed about the whole thing.  I may just see how many people I can be passed to before they run out of people.  ;D

Oh man, I hope that some right-winger doesn't find this thread, everyone offering to work for Cheesebiscuit. Look at all the immigrants! Willing to do sh*t work for less money than the British! ;)

CB I wish you were in Brighton, I don't mind getting milk and I'm always friendly.  Doubt the salary would cover my train fare and child care though!  I wish! x

Numerous people have been reduced to tears recently because the management are so inconsiderate in the way they treat us.

As someone who's been a professional writer and editor for over 16 years, I assure you, if you're not leaving the office in tears, then you're not in publishing. :)

Our letting agency completely sucks. I contacted them almost two months ago about maintenance issues (including our smoke detector, which is broken, so kinda not safe!). I've since had to call repeatedly to chase things up and see if/when someone will actually come out to fix things. (This week, the handle on the door came off, so I have to leave the front door ajar when I come in just so that I can get out in case there's a fire or something...not that I would know, without a smoke detector.)

Seriously, I hate moving with a passion, but these people are really tempting me to do it. How hard is it to 1) pay attention when your tenants tell you stuff is not working 2) send someone out for an hour (max?) to fix stuff?

The freaking price of car insurance!  >:(

We are at the point where we really need a 2nd car due to different working schedules the husband and I have. I don't have our current insurance in my name (I'm 2ndary) and the company we are with therefore does not allow me to build any "No Claims Benifits"...So my ratings suck! I was looking at a cheap £400 1997 Nissan Micra Shape and insurance for even THAT is still £773.12 !!! No mind the other quotes for £3,000+ I was getting from other companies!! Average quote was £1,200 or more!!  :o  I ended up losing out on the car because I couldn't find the £773.12 insurance quote quick enough and someone else bought it from underneath me.  :-\\\\

Highway Robbery I say!  :P

Are the landlord laws just lax here equestrianerd?  They aren't suppose to fix something within x days or they could get in trouble? Or are they just stinkers who take advantage of renters patience?

Yeah, that sounds a bit pricey Amberelle11, but then again not sure what is a good price for insurance here. I think DH pays about 700 a year and he's had no accidents or tickets.

Amberelle, have you looked into switching to a company that does let you build up no claims as the secondary? Also consider companies that have special multi-car discounts for insuring 2 cars in the same household.

Both, plus a hefty dose of sheer incompetence.

At least we're at the end of our lease, so reverting to a month-to-month arrangement, which means that if we do decide to move (which I'd rather not do, but have no evidence that the incompetence will improve), we won't have to wait long to do it.
