I'd go camp out in whomevers office and not leave until I had it in my hand. Sometimes you have to do drastic things to make sure it gets done  :-\\\\ Good Luck.

I finally got it, but only after a good deal of trouble. I had to call the admin office and basically say I was coming in during lunch that day and needed the letter. When I walked in at 1:30, they tried to send me away saying the office was closed, even though I had been told I could show up specifically at that time. I managed to get the letter, looked over it to make sure it had all the details necessary for the visa, then went back to work... only to find out I had forgot to check my name and they spelled it wrong! You'd think 'Davis' is easy to spell, but they always spell it 'Davies' here...

A few angry phone calls later and I arranged to pick up the corrected letter after work. Bit of a waste in bus fares and stress! I honestly never want to deal with that university again!
I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.' Kurt Vonnegut

The charity I work for has told us we are now opening on Sundays.   >:(  This means my manager and I now have to work at least one weekend day each every week *or* both weekend days every other week.  This may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

That's crap!  >:(

If there were more paid staff, that would be one thing - but with just the two of you, that's complete crap.

Major cr@p!  >:(  That's the thing, other charities have *two* assistant managers so that way it's not as bad when it comes to alternating working weekends.  Most other charities don't open on Sundays either.  Only Morrisons (and Harriet's) are open on Town Street on a Sunday.  Also my manager told me how much she makes.  We are the lowest paying charity.  If she'd gotten a manager's position at a different charity she'd be making 6 thousand pounds more per year than what she makes now.  And we all know how much peanuts I get paid, and they are pushing pushing pushing all the time to get more out of us.  We feel like workhorses.  They will work us until are hooves are raw and we are lame, then shoot us and get new ones!

Do they really think it will be worthwhile to open on Sundays? Especially, as you say, not much else is open around there.

It's submitted! ;D And best yet - my boss at work told me to use our company's courier service since he considered the matter 'work related' (true, because I can't go permament without the visa...). So I didn't have to pay a thing and the application should arrive to UKBA first thing Monday morning. Now it's waiting time...

That's the thing - I like that this street is really quiet on Sundays!

I've just had an exhausting morning at work :(. We get Friday afternoons off at the moment (study time) and normally I would stay there for a couple of hours to do some revision, but this morning we had 2.5 hours of lectures on 'Potential Vorticity'... and now my brain is fried :P. I really should be doing some studying, since the big final exams are less than 4 weeks away, but I don't think I can do anything right now!

It's just been a tiring end to a crazy week... on Monday we had to stand up and give forecast briefings in front the Operations Centre Manager, on Tuesday it was in front of the Chief Meteorologist and on Wednesday it was in front of the Director of Operations and Services - talk about scary :o!

Hospital appointment this morning (ultimately very positive but still stressful) and I came into the office late into a total sh*tstorm on about four different fronts. None of which are my fault and no one's blaming me, but it's still a huge amount to deal with and I feel like I'm playing whack-a-mole with all the different issues. Plus because of the time difference with a partner company in NYC, I have to do quite a bit to deal with this stuff tonight and throughout the weekend. I had to turn on my behemoth work email on my iPhone (I always have that account set to Inactive on there on principle!) so I can stay updated tomorrow while I'm down in Brighton. :(

Sigh.  It's getting more and more like the US where retail is concerned in the UK.   :(  The rumour is, that if we take less than 50 pounds on a Sunday then we won't have to continue with it.  I don't think we would make that much, but Harriet's being right across the street would possibly bring in some business since it is a ladies clothing shop.  :-\\\\

My boys got into a tub of E45 cream last night... and used it as hair gel.

I don't know if I'm ever going to get that out.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Another week gone, still no visa appointment yet and I'm really really homesick today. Serves me right for watching Dirty Jobs last night, completely set in Nor Cali, the Walnut orchards of the Sacramento Valley and Tulelake, I miss being a simple country girl.
