And no one, especially in more advanced years, should be booted off medication that works and forced to suffer with lesser.
That happened to my late mother twice, and the insurance company said it was because, "We think this works better on seniors."  Both times, the insurance company had to put her back on the original medication.  Once, because the generic didn't work, and the other time her blood sugar kept going up with the new medication, despite her doing everything right.

Last year, I had to change maintenance asthma inhalers, because my insurance company decided they wouldn't pay for the one that had worked well for me for at least a decade.  The new one is fine, but I don't think I should have been forced to change.  I've got no idea why they decided they won't cover an Advair Discus, but they won't.  I may also have to find another rescue inhaler, because the insurer decided they don't want to pay for Pro Air either.

They really should be ashamed of themselves. Let people stay on what works, and don't charge insane prices for medication.

OMG, this exact same thing happened to me! And then after 4 years on other maintenance inhalers, approx 2 months ago, they "decided" they would only cover Advair again!

Mailed my parents' Christmas presents to the States a few weeks ago, only for them to not arrive. When I checked my tracking, found out that someone decided to send them to Sydney, Australia. So no presents for my parents, and I'm not sure whether the box will actually ever arrive. Included in the presents were two vintage brooches bought in Notting Hill, so no replacing those if they don't arrive. Thanks for absolutely nothing, Royal Mail, you've ruined Christmas.
It is difficult to speak adequately, or justly, of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent... the biggest aggregation of human life, the most complete compendium in the world.

Oh man!  That is so awful!  Mailing anything is a real pain in the keester.  How did they mess that up so badly?  My parents had issues sending me a package via USPS.  They paid extra for guaranteed delivery.  Called up when it still hadn't arrived the next week only to find out that it was being held because we owed VAT.  Nice of them to let us know!  I hope that your package does make it eventually.  Hopefully you can claim back the cost of sending it.

Hubby and I shipped some of our belongings to the UK when we lived there, things we'd stored at mom's until we could get them over. We had to fight for a while and, and they also went through all the boxes, to get them to understand it was our 'stuff' we'd had for years, and not new items or things we were importing to sell. I can't remember how much exactly, but it was an extortionate amount per box. It took a couple weeks for the boxes to finally be released to us.

I posted my absentee ballot in the official envelope this year -- cost over 3 pounds to mail -- and I got it returned two days later!  DH thinks it was because it didn't have U S A in neon letters on the envelope so Royal Mail couldn't figure out where Massachusetts is  :P

Wow.  My absentee ballot said right on the front in bold letters "US Election Mail."

TamaMoo, that sounds ridiculous!

Minor, compared to so many things in life, but hubby had his traditional sprouts with Christmas dinner (we had ours tonight) and the whole apartment stinks. I can't spray a heavy duty air freshener or light a candle because of Joey's little lungs, or I'd have lit a candle hours ago when I first started cooking them.

How do you cook them?
The way my parents cooked them they smelled terrible! It was steamed/boiled in vinegar. blech.

If you roast them they just smell nice!
I halve mine, toss in olive oil to coat then season with salt and pepper. Put them on a cookie sheet in one layer with a bit of space around them in a 150 degree C oven until they get all roasty looking. (little bit crispy with nice browned edges)
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I will have to suggest that to him. He likes them boiled or steamed. Or,  to actually get them done, boiled then steamed. I hate them, but the way you do them, I think I just might like them. I will try it and see what he thinks.

I always hated those little sprouts (despite the fact that they look like cute little cabbages  ;) ) but they'd always been served to me boiled or steamed (there isn't enough mayonnaise in a jar to cover that taste IMO - erk!).  One Thanksgiving my daughter (who did not get her amazing cooking skills from me!) served a delicious roasted vegetable side dish that I couldn't get enough of.  I was shocked when she told me the main vegetable was sprouts!   :o

I keep meaning to try the roasting method here since my UKC fiancee loves them.... boiled  :-X

I steadfastly refused to eat them when my parents made them, they just smelled absolutely terrible! They love to eat sprouts the way I make them, I don't think they boil/steam them too often anymore. haha.

I only tried them for the first time when they were in a chicken dish I loved at a restaurant I worked at. I was surprised at how much the texture reminded me of broccoli! haha. Then I found the roasting method and I haven't turned back. *grins* I even got my sprout hating Brit to love them! haha. My inlaws make them the icky way... so I didn't eat them at Christmas. We had roasted sprouts on Boxing day with our steaks and au gratin potatoes.

I used to be a staunch Brussel Sprout hater until I had them at a restaurant job a few years ago. I never knew they had a similar texture to broccoli when done right and weirdly enough they're a tiny bit sweet.  Then I discovered roasting and I started making them at home! Soon after that same restaurant job introduced flash fried brussell sprouts. talk about AMAZING. Served with nuts and orange zest. They were/are so good.

I have always called them 'little green balls of evil'. I haven't bought any to try roasting them yet, but will in the next week or two.
