It doesn't help when the best form of encouragement I get is comments like "you might think that you'll never get a job here because you're American… you know, 'i'm american why would they hire someone like me" but honestly you're fairly well spoken for someone like you!"
Is that supposed to make me feel better?? Because it sounds like a passive aggressive insult  [smiley=beadyeyes.gif]

This happened to me yesterday. I've started a new job within the same hospital where I've been working and I spent most of my first day (yesterday) being a surgical consultant's glorified tea b*tch. "You're not English, are you?" he asked, and I shook my head. Then he went, "'Murican! You make an excellent cup of tea, for an American."

... Thanks?

Nevertheless, I'm sorry to hear about the job search trouble you've been having. There were many times I felt like tossing in the towel - it took me nearly a year to get a job. Just stick with it! Keep your head up, and keep searching. You'll get there. :)

Well, I'm here in the US visiting family and friends, which is going swimmingly. And lo and behold, my parents just had the car I was driving get hit while it was parked in front of their house.

Lovely, no?

Guy is 84 years old and has no recollection about what actually happened. He hit their car hard enough to pop his tire and cause my parents car to leak what the cop thinks is brake fluid. The cop told them not to drive their car as it will need to be towed.

The guy MUST go through his driving test again. I'd say this is a good thing.

What a day. *sigh* At least this happened after we visited my friend in North Wyoming. We went with her to Yellowstone.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Just heard that the Sears store at my local mall back home is downsizing and the bottom floor is going to be taken over by ... Primark!  Not a big fan of Sears but they did have a very good Landsend department.  Hope that's not going to go.  When I go back to visit usually manage to find a Landsend bargain or two.

Movers come next Monday.   Our house will sell on July 6th.   Yesterday a swarm of yellowjackets decide to make a nest in our attic.  Nice timing.

I'm not normally one for pest control companies, but there are times when I simply can't coexist with nature.

Our offer got accepted to buy a new place and we will be renting out our flat. While this is good news, I continually find myself annoyed at the issues lack of history in the country are causing. Although I've been here just shy of 2 years, most big lenders are uncomfortable I'm not here 3. I can't get better credit ratings because I physically am unable to do things such as get on the electoral roll [which is another thing that pisses me off all together as I work and pay taxes, I contribute to societ/economy/etc., have no recourse to public funds - which is fine as luckily I am not in a situation to need them - , and after ALLL that I can't even vote for who I want to represent me within the government!] and al those kind of things. I have a credit card which is about all I can do and LUCKILY is good enough, for now.

Just never imagined this type of stuff would have caused his much of a problem! - I know that probably sounds naive. Also, trying to file my US Taxes is honestly a joke! My brain is literally fried right about now...

Sorry to pop up out of the blue, was just hoping somebody else maybe could relate and make me feel a bit less alone in this! Haven't used this forum in AGES but thought maybe it was time I came back to it and all the lovely people that populate it :)

OK my IA's for the week so far. I'm both moving and starting a new job soon. First I'm so excited how my last month there will be...  ::) It's a family business and not very professional.  Plenty of throwing under the bus, emotional abuse etc. Now after requesting holiday time to move I am told I don't have half of the holiday I thought I did. Never mind other documents stating otherwise and this not being a problem last year. I was told that they would have to amend my contract to half my holiday days and I could resign it. No...  Then I hand in my one month's notice. "Oh we don't have to worry about your holiday days anyway if you're leaving." I have six days more until the time I leave I am entitled to. So now they will think about it whether they want to pay me my legal holiday days. I will be so glad to be out of there. The place is crazy making.

Moving - I'm tired of the conditions here. After a year of no warm/hot water we finally got the boiler fixed and now it only scalds us in the shower. Forget mixing cold water it doesn't help. Boiler also so full of junk that it requires a magnetic filter and have it cleaned out every three months or else the water will go back to being cold again. (Says British Gas)Multiple emails to landlord about when will British Gas be back to fit this after she got the estimate (300 pounds). Nothing... nothing... weeks... emails. She likes to ignore you endlessly if she doesn't want to reply. Ask her questions she blatantly ignores you. Sent a sign on delivery and email eight days ago giving her our one month's notice and asking how we go about getting our deposit and giving our keys back.... nothing. She lives far away and we've never met her.  So now I have to deal with trying to get my holiday pay (I shouldn't have to) and hoping that someday she replies and we figure out how to get our money back. (This shouldn't have to be a big deal).

We can barely afford the new place but thank god we are leaving this disgusting place with such horrible room mates. I actually want to post pictures of this place online to shame people as these conditions are truly shocking.
Keepin' it real. Real annoying.

The dear Almost Relative asked if he could stop over night on his way up and back t'North.  OK, we said.  So I made up the spare bed and laid out two big towels plus washcloth for him (he has to have two towels  ::))  We took him out for a meal on his way up and fed him a chicken dinner on the way back.  He somehow managed to mis-align the seat on the downstairs toilet  ???  Then just as he was leaving he said he is driving his Aged Parents to the land over the border in three weeks and thought they would stop off here around lunch time.  Oh joy!

After a fabulously perfect day of boating (sunny, warm but not hot or humid, which is rare for August in these parts) and an amazing dinner out with friends:

IA 1.  We were headed home, and the road from where the marina is located is VERY curvy and I hadn't been on it for years. There was a jacka$$ of a driver tailgating me with those horrible headlights that are so white they have a blue tint to them. I was blinded by all 3 mirrors and could barely see. When oncoming traffic was present it was impossible to see. It was so bad I was struggling to see the road half the time, or I would have been able to watch for somewhere to pull over and let him pass.

IA 2: When we got to the next town, I was able to ditch him and felt a bit better about life until I saw some lovely red and blue lights behind me. Yay. Pulled over, and no idea why.

IA 3: The guy who was blinding me, causing me so much chaos had called and reported me for being all over the road and for actually being over the center lane a couple times, once with a car coming toward me. He told them I had to be be impaired. I explained how he had me blinded, admitted to one beer 4 hours before, since I knew I'd have to drive, and easily passed the 'follow my finger' test, and was let go.

I was beyond chapped that the person who was causing all the problems would report me.

Hubby threw away a few of our tea towels, as they were hand me downs that were getting raggedy and discolored. That's fine, but he made a mistake and threw away some of our good tea towels with that...  including nice ones that I bought from Williams Sonoma  >:(. Major first world issues, but still annoyed.

IA 1: I'm currently dieting with the King of Bad Ideas again.  ::) We do great for a few days then he feels we should either reward ourselves, or we aren't eating enough so we should have a treat.

Overall I am down about 9 pounds, so I am still moving in the right direction, but can't help thinking where I'd be without all his evil ideas.

IA2: A week and a half into this diet I remembered we are about to embark upon 'all things pumpkin' season. That is my favorite food season of the year. That was a week ago, which means we are getting ever closer to all sorts of willpower struggles.

Congratulations! Keep on keeping on!

Thanks!  :) My incentive is 'less of me to carry around London' when we go later this year. We go on walks up to 10 - 15 miles, with no problem, but less to carry around would be a bonus. Hubs felt bad enough after eating the McDonald's last night he agrees that has to stop.

We have use of the pool at work before work any day we want it, and use of the fitness room whenever we want, so that is a bonus. Working out for free is good.

My IA short and sweet - why does it take multiple trips to the chiropractor to get my first treatment? My chiros in the US diagnosed and started a treatment the first visit. Apparently it is possible... and they didn't take x-rays so that's even less they have to look at to tell me what's wrong. I should also say this is not through the NHS, I'm paying out of pocket.
