Inconvenient Annoyances

Yep, some people do know royals :).

- my only experience has been when I 'met' Princess Diana when she came to my home town in 1991 (she opened the new music centre at the local secondary school)... she walked right past us, shaking hands with people... my brother had his hand out, but she was escorted away just before she got to him :P.
- one of my friends in secondary school was on Prince William's university course
- one of my colleagues lived in the same officer's mess as Prince Harry... he introduced himself in the dining hall and bought her a drink in the mess bar
- other colleagues of mine used to brief both William and Harry's flying squadrons

My husbands family knew the Middletons I cannot remember if it was through work (his dad worked for airlines) or what the reason was because.. I know it's mean but I don't really care about that stuff lol.

But I told my cousin that once, and she got all starry eyed at my husband like he could bring her to Kate.

**** edit ***
I just asked hubby her great grandparents or something lived on the street he grew up in in southall London, which was in his family for ages. Apparently you wouldn't want to live there anymore according to him.

Even when people joke around (like when you take your visitors to someplace like Windsor and see the castle and they make a joke about "did you reserve us tea time with the Queen" or something), I have the same reaction as when I used to work retail and would get the "I guess that makes it free" joke when items didn't scan properly. Internally rolling my eyes until they fall out of the socket but outwardly managing a polite chuckle.

Omg I hate the " I guess it's free joke" I used to work retail world... it's only funny once then it gets real old.

I'm not even sure if I found it funny the first time...lol

I don't really have any celeb sightings to share beyond "meet and greets" except for....

On my second visit to Glasgow a few years ago, my now-husband came to visit me and swore up and down he'd seen Eddie Izzard at my hotel. Lo and behold, we get on the elevator/lift and who's in there but Eddie himself. We kept it to normal elevator chit-chat about the weather and all, but he seemed very nice. He had some lovely blue nail polish on too.

That's a good one! Probably because it's the only name I've recognized so far. Lol

In Edinburgh last week we saw Richard Osmond at pleasance courtyard. I had a heart attack because I love pointless.

Fellow pointless lover here, that's awesome!!

For famous people, I've met/was formerly friends with a bunch of artists from the electronic music scene where a few went on to have commercial success and play huge festivals (like - Kill the Noise is from my hometown), and a few NHL players because I went to college with them.  And my friend's very talented little brother was on So You Think You Can Dance and is now in Hamilton on Broadway. But that's really the extent of it, no TV celebs.

I've got a few, but they're all stretches:

I worked at a camp where Ryan Stiles' kids went. His wife would drop them off and pick them up on her jet ski (they lived across the lake). I did see him once as we were coming back from a staff thing.

Hilary Swank used to babysit me. My brother apparently used to use that as a pickup line. 'You know Hilary Swank? She's seen me naked.' Well, she has seen my brother naked, but only changing his diaper.  ::)

I got to sit in the chair Princess Diana sat in at the World Expo in Vancouver. My mom brings that one up a lot....

One of my little brother's friends, who I babysat a couple of times when I was about 16 (he was 8 or so) is now an actor in LA :). He's been in a few BBC shows, plus Switched at Birth and Once Upon a Time and he's made a movie with Kevin Kline, Susan Sarandon and Dakota Fanning, plus he also read for Peeta in Hunger Games.

My other brother has me beat on the celeb-meeting front though - he worked as an extra on a few UK TV shows, plus Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and X-Men First Class. And a couple of years ago he posted a photo on FB of him partying in a hotel room with Woody Harrelson - they were filming Now You See Me 2 in Macau and the cast went to see the show my brother is in, and got backstage tours afterward - he chatted to Woody, Dave Franco and I think Daniel Radcliffe too and then got invited to join them for a party. He's also performed for Leo DiCaprio, though he didn't get to meet him because Leo was promoting a rival company and couldn't be seen doing publicity for someone else.

You know what "partying with Woody Harrelson" means don't you?

Oh, okay, I'll add my brushes-with-celebrity.

I met Earnest Green (one of the Little Rock Nine) while volunteering on Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign.  I did not meet Bill.

I know the (a?) personal email address used by Tony Kaye (director of American History X), though it was sent to me as a forward from someone working on a project with him, and I've never tried to contact him (after reading the email that was forwarded, he seemed a bit mental).

I met Adrian Brody briefly, related to that same project, in 2011.

I had dinner with Penn Jillette, Kevin Pollak, and about 8 other people after a book discussion.  Penn and I are Facebook friends, though we haven't really spoken since we had a disagreement involving a cat.  I shared a dessert with Kevin Pollak.

I went to Hay Festival in June and had an embarrassing fangirl experience next to Bernie Sanders, in which security told me off (while apologizing for having to do it).  My husband loved watching that!  I did not get to actually meet or speak to Bernie, but I stood nearly elbow-to-elbow with him.  (Edited to add: My husband was too busy laughing and enjoying the spectacle to take a picture.)

I think that's all of them.  And I'm pretty sure my politics are evident, now.  Anyway, other than Tony Kaye, who is British-born, but lives in LA, mine are all American.

I'm featured in a book written by Dr. William Davis, his second in the Wheat Belly series.

And I met Ricki Lake when I was a guest on her show in 1993ish.
