and then I got a nice, big cheque in the mail a couple of weeks later

I've had tax code issues before as well and the positive side of it was that I got a fat cheque as a refund! I hadn't even noticed properly, HMRC noticed first, so it was a pleasant surprise!

I literally HATE my current company and the way that they (and others) basically don't allow you to contact an actual person when you need help...

I start my new job on the 2nd of October (so Monday - woohoo!). That's my onboarding day and I have to start on an onboarding day, that's not optional. Right before I went on holiday on the 13th, I was told by the Security background check people that they still hadn't heard from my Employer (who they contacted weeks prior!) about my employment confirmation so I would need to give them payslips from something like September 2014 and every 3 months up until now. I had literally juuusssttt forced somebody from HR to talk to me to for an exit interview so I could talk to them about how poorly their company treats employees and what they needed to sort out so I reached out to that person and told her I needed a contact to confirm my employment as the HR inbox we are told to reach out to wasn't responding. She came back to say they should respond withing a few days and that she couldn't give me a name because it's just a general inbox (helpful). I had no time to get all the info because I was literally leaving for holiday and working on my handover as it would be permanent.... The lady emailed them again asking them to confirm once they've responded to the security people....

I went on holiday and halfway through I received ANOTHER email stating they still had no confirmation of employment nor any payslips. I was LIVID! I emailed the HR people agaiinnnn telling them I wanted a name and number ASAP because I was pretty fed up at this point and I wouldn't be happy if they cost me my start date as that's money out of my pocket (it was a mission getting everything sorted for my new job up to this point and this was the icing on the cake). They eventually came back saying they had responded to the security people (thanks for confirming as you were meant to...). Today I found out that they couldn't confirm one year of the last 3 because my contract was technically held by a recruiter even though I'm in my company's system as they gave me an employment number and sorted out paperwork, etc.... So I had to reach out to the recruiter I worked with over 2 years ago now as I no longer have access to their digital payslips. I emailed the security people the recruiter contact info but they've yet to confirm if they've actually reached out to them for info and every phone call I made to the security people yesterday went straight to voicemail so it's just out of my hands. I got the person I checked-in with when I was a contractor on the email trail and she said she'd be happy to confirm my employment but they don't actually confirm if they want to talk to her or not!! It's very frustrating. I feel very in the dark and cannot contact anybody about anything...it's all general inboxes and unanswered phone numbers (when you can even get a phone number!!). All this has to be completed by Monday or I can't start my job for another few weeks and I lose a few weeks of money...... It's been a stressful few weeks. Even when on holiday I was dealing with the grief (my own fault for checking emails on holiday).
My, how time flies....

I may be wrong in this but...

My husband and I were having lunch in Chiquito. It's JUST Chiquito, nothing special. Family friendly.

A family came in with two younger kids. They had a tablet to watch shows or whatever. LOUDLY. It had to have been on full volume. There was a row of seats separating us and them and they might as well have been right next to me sitting in my booth with me with how loud it was.

I know it is laid back place, but I found it so annoying. -_-

That’s completely out of order.  It’s fine for the kids to watch an iPad or play games, but the volume should be off.  Somebody from the restaurant should have sorted them.

My related complaint is that it’s now seen as perfectly acceptable to call someone for a chat when you are on the train.  Not “what should I buy for dinner “ but just a boring chat to pass the time.  Even in the quiet carriage!  I used to tell people to shut it but I’ve stopped because everyone does it and it always starts a fight with a chav.

How many times have you answered someone only to realize they weren't talking to you but was on the phone with a wireless ear piece? Lolol.

Oh man, that's so annoying.  Although my train complaint in the UK (aka the reason I'm glad I walk to work because my old commute a few years back was on the train) was always that no matter how long the journey, a good number of British people seem to really like eating crisps the WHOLE time they're on a train.  Crunch crunch crunch crunch.  *twitches*

I do not miss my daily train commutes to work where the one person with an egg or prawn sandwich sits across from me -_-

To me there is little that is worse than loud chewing, but that does come pretty close!

I saw Golden Grahams cereal in Tesco.
I got a wee bit excited as i'd not had these in decades, so I bought 2 boxes.
Cracked one of them open this morning, poured into bowl, added milk, and proceeded to chomp.

UGH.  They are like tasteless little squares of cardboard.  Any sweetness is very, very faint, and I'm really disappointed.  And still have more than a box and a half left.

Sorry for that tragedy Albatross.  I’ve given up on the UK style fruit loops, they taste like cardboard as well.

Remember I posted that box of fruit loops with marshmallows in it?  It was amazing.   I’m saving my pennies for another box.

There's a nasty rumour that they are removing the artificial colouring from the USA Froot Loops.  I fear this may be the beginning of the end!
