Shows you how silly my wife and I are.......we had our dishwasher taken out...we both prefer to do dishes by hand. A lot quicker.
I could totally understand that with no kids and retired (not sure if that’s you), especially if you’ve got radio 4 going next to the sink.   It might even be relaxing.

The only good thing to come for our family since the change is that the rules against licking your plate have been relaxed.  Now at the end of every meal we give s signal and all lick our plates clean like something out of Lord of the Flies.

Husband and I are split on this. I personally HATE doing dishes (I don't like the idea of touching the food even though I just ate it but when it mixes with water..UGH...) but he thinks it's quicker to handwash. What's funny is we get locked in these battles after dinner of me wanting to put them in the dishwasher because I can't start it until there's a full load but he wants to handwash them meaning I'll never end up with a full load!

What are you even arguing for? If he wants to wash the dishes, then let him!  ;D

Because it SOUNDS nice but basically what happens is he eventually expects ME to pull my own weight with the hand washing...NO THANK YOU! He wants to wash the dishes in the heat of the moment....but eventually he'll start getting ideas about ME doing to the dishes....Dishwasher all the way for me :)

My thoughts exactly! Sometimes I literally have to order that he put the dishes down ASAP and walk away...lol

... but he thinks it's quicker to handwash.

{small rant} It's not about quicker! It's about the 10 billion ways I'd rather spend my time!{/small rant}

In a similar vein, one of my wife's big issues is her desire for clean floors and how that butts up against her hatred of sweeping or vacuuming. It is my dream to someday have one of those robot vacuum cleaners, which would totally solve the problem. Somehow, the idea of a little robot wandering around vacuuming the downstairs in the middle of the night fills me with unmitigated joy.

The only thing keeping this dream from becoming a reality is our two children, aged 2 and 4, who would no doubt take great delight in attempting to ride the robot, or dragging it out of wherever it would go to charge itself during the day so their cuddly toys could do combat with it, or just generally destroying it in any number of ways I haven't even thought of.

But when they're older, we're getting a robot.

My stepmother has one of those central vacuum things.  All she has to do is carry the hose around and every room has a suction point.  Americans and their giant castles!

Yes....that's me......I'm old(60)....nearly in my grave. Radio 4......damn, you got me.....but only in the car (but not at 10....that's when those pesky women get on the air). Now my wife's parents....that's a whole other amusing/irritating subject. I mean, come on ....this is Yorkshire......

Seriously.....my wife's father still saves water from anything.....waiting for hot water to come down from the tank he saves to use with flushing the loo. Really. He does. He reads the meters at least once a day. He gets up at 3am to put the washing machine on to save money. He sets the alarm to get up at 3......seriously. The weird thing is .....they aren't hard up for money......it's just the way they are. Her father swears his heating system is so economical(it's never on...storage heater).....no wonder it doesn't cost much to run. It's really a bit like the Monty Python skit on The Yorkshireman

I completely agree about the saving time (and the mess on the side of the sink while they are wait to be cleaned). I like to just put them in the dishwasher ASAP and forget about them until it's full-up enough to start the process :)

If I had the disposable income, I would SO go and buy a roomba, although I bet my husband would tell me there would be LOADS of other better things to spend the money on and that I'm being lazy.

My parents have that at theirs. I remember when I was younger and my Papa helped them install it. At the time it was SUPER innovative.... now there are roombas and vaccuums nearly as thin and transportable as brooms....and don't forget about the swiffer wet-jets!

Dude, it’s good to have you back.

Those are all the things I wanted to say to the person who asked about living in Yorkshire.
