Hope you get some pain relief and answers soon TF!

Thanks PB.

I was in and out in about 10 minutes. Not even long enough to get engrossed in the PMQs on the telly.

In the assessment, she said there was probably nothing they could do to help me. It doesn't seem broken (but then later, she said she once walked for 6 weeks on a fractured ankle) so she think it's probably a ligament or muscle thing.

(Un)fortunately, it didn't hurt much at the appointment and it wasn't noticeably swollen (DH examines my feet at night and thinks it sometimes is a bit swollen... Not bee sting swollen, just a little puffy).

She said to rest, keep it elevated and take ibuprofen until my GP can take a look at it. Easy to do since I work from home and only really need to go out once or twice a week for groceries and socializing.

I guess I've got more quality time with my bed, a cup of tea and YouTube in my future and DH has the shopping on his list... or online deliveries.

In my area we can self refer to the Podietry service. If you can, I would do that or suggest that the GP refers you there if you don't get any answers from him.

Sorry, it was actually Radiotopia, not NPR.  Here's the response they send back :

I've complained about Jonathan Woss, I mean, Ross. I just don't get how that guy is on the radio or TV.

I haven't checked into self-referrals, but DH mentioned there's a podiatrist just down the road from us. I walked past it today and it's well within hobbling distance. ;)

How do you know if you can self refer?

My foot has been hurting and has been getting worse the last few weeks. I finally realised I've been in pain since mid/late September.

I've got an appointment with my GP next week, but am going on an excursion to the walk-in clinic now in case they can give me any advice.

I've got no idea what to expect or how long it will take so I've got a full phone battery, an external battery and a few snacks to get me through.

Have you been doing a lot of extra walking? Is it the ball of your foot just behind your toes and gets worse the more you walk on it?

I've been having that problem. GP just gave me a script for Naproxen and told me to take all of it to see if it helped and if it didn't then I could have a scan of my foot. Wearing flats with good support helps but my foot still hurts.

Hope your foot is feeling better.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I haven't been walking more than normal, but I do walk a lot compared to others. Once a week, I do about 2-3 miles one day and another day, about 5 miles.

It's mainly the outside of my foot and a little bit on the ball. Previously, DH noticed swelling on the outside of my foot, but last night he saw it on the inside of my foot. Yesterday was closer to a 5 mile day so I've got it elevated.

It's generally worse when I've done a lot of walking, but sometimes just hurts out of the blue. I do find that if it hurts and I start walking (slowly), the pain tapers off and I can walk somewhat normally. But once I stop, I picks up when I start walking again.

Sometimes, but not every morning.

When it does hurt, it's hard to take that first step out of bed and the stairs down are painful (it's easier going up).

The pain is more on my outer foot and the ball of my foot and not my heel or toes. It sounds like plantars fasciitis mainly affects the heel.

Metatarsalgia, maybe?  Playing internet doctor is fun!  ;D ;)
Hopefully GP can offer more insight, but I do like the idea of seeing a podiatrist if you can't get any relief.

I've never gotten food on my underpants!

Hmmm... I'm not sure that sounds like what I've got.

All these suggestions sound a little familiar, but some of the symptoms don't apply at all, so I've got no idea.

I spent most of yesterday in bed with my foot elevated and it feels a bit better today, but still a little pain. I'll probably spend the rest of the day in bed just to be safe (the morning was spent in the kitchen making parkin and doing laundry, but taking it kind of easy). Time to pull out the knitting needles/crochet hook and get started on a project.

OMG! I've been thinking about parkin all week! I'm no baker, but for parkin I might just break out the apron!!! ;D
