I had to do a presentation for an interview and I supplemented with printouts so they could keep copies for themselves (something to remember me by, really!) Like Lyonaira, I used their colors. No one mentioned the theme, but I am still glad I did it.

I love PowerPoint so if you have any last minute questions, I am happy to help! I just wish I saw this before. I started my presentation with about me, my qualifications, hobbies (basically stuff from the CV but fluffed out with a bit more detail), and my 6-month, 1-year and 3-years plans for the position.

YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP PEOPLE....  GRRRRRRR

So I go check in for the interview at 3:30.  EA comes down and says, "I'm not sure what has happened.  Mr. X is in London today conducting interviews, you are supposed to be in the City."  FFS!!!  I showed her my email telling me exactly where to be and when so she could see I followed instructions.  She was definitely embarassed and annoyed.

Now they want me back Friday at 2pm.  My husband took Friday off for Thanksgiving to have a family day.  I'm still trying to come up with my response to the recruiter (who has emailed and not even called).

The company is Oracle.  They should be better run than this....

I guess I've got a bit more time to perfect my presentation - if I decide to even pursue this.

WWYD?  I've put the baby into childcare for half a day (costs money of course), done this damn presentation, got myself all dolled up.  And then NOTHING.  Trying to figure out how to respond.

I guess I want to be sure that Friday is worth cancelling my family day for....

I can honestly say that I would NOT bother! If this is any clue about how things are done, this position would not be worth your time or effort.

WWYD?

I'd leave it, honestly. At your stage in your career you can afford to be a little choosy. Plenty more fish in the sea.

Oracle is big time though.  Are you impressed with working for a massive company like that?  US style benefits and possibly pay package?

You know Oracle is a big deal in the database world?  I would seriously consider if working for a massive successful company is what you want.

Plus it's right down the road from you!  Compared to working at Waterloo?  How about 4 extra hours in your day?

I swallowed my pride and went this:

These things happen.  Don't beat yourself up over it.  :)

Friday will be difficult for me to arrange.  Does Mr. X have any availability on another day or is Friday the only opportunity?

My job doesn't pop up all the time.  And I'd never find a closer location.  I'll give them ONE chance.

Jimbo, I've worked for bigger but it's what I do (big tech).

Plus I told them my salary expectations and they didn't blink an eye.   ;D

We'll see what they say to my email.  I'm annoyed that they emailed and didn't call...

I'm worried about the recruiter, they should be going nuts over this.  Do they work for Oracle or another company?  If it's another company, I would have expected them to be calling you on an hourly basis.

You know Larry Ellison has as much money as Bill Gates from ONE chappy product?

Internal, they found me on LinkedIn.

We'll see what they say.  I'll go Friday if that's the only option but this better reflect positively on me and not negatively!

Bigger than Oracle?  There may be two companies bigger than Oracle near Reading and Microsoft is one

Husband worked for Oracle back in the '90's. The operative word is "worked" past tense. It was a totally inept sh*t show back then and I'm sorry it hasn't improved.

Personally, I would leave it.

It's always worth remembering that you are also interviewing them as a place you're willing to put your time (and your kids in day care) and spend many hours of your life. If they can't get their act together now when they're meant to make an impression on you, they may never get it right.

This would be my thoughts exactly!

I think vodafone is hiring people in the finance world - not sure if it's any roles even remotely similar to what you're experienced in but might be worth a look.
