I hope so - I called a local company as soon as they opened this morning and they said the engineer would call when he was on his way, but it would be around mid-morning... it's now almost 1pm and I haven't heard anything yet.

Trying to decide how long to give them before I call back and ask what time they'll be here.

You've given long enough.  Call!

Just called them - they said I'm next on the engineer's list, but he's been held up at his first job of the day and he'll give me a call when he's on his way.

It's frustrating not knowing though, because I have things to do... I want to do some baking but I don't want to start and then have him turn up in the middle of it (since the boiler's in the kitchen). I also need to go to the supermarket and pick up a package from the local Amazon Locker, but it can take up to an hour to get there and back if the traffic is bad.

Ksand, it might be a good idea to consider boiler insurance. It's not very expensive and they will do an annual service as part of the plan.
You can also bundle it with things like electrical and plumbing and drainage coverage and get even better value.  :)

Go do your locker.  You are safe there.  He'll call and I'm sure he'll grab something for lunch too.  You definitely have an hour.

The baking is tough as if he has to cut the power, you could be stuck mid bake.   But yum!  Whatcha baking?

Jimbocz will be so happy! I honestly went looking for grits while I was home but couldn't find any that looked authentic enough. Buffalo doesn't really do grits very well! But I do make tasty wing sauce, and I'm grateful Frank's red hot is available here.

I sent him some Quaker grits when I did that bulk Target order with the free shipping but these will be way better as they are produced within 30 minutes of "our" hometown.

I'm going to downtown later today to find his grandparents house to take some updated pictures.

I'm thinking about it - it's not urgent, as I have until Wednesday to pick it up... I just would have done it this morning if I'd known he wouldn't be here until this afternoon.

I'm debating between ginger and oat cookies coated in chocolate, or chocolate chip cupcakes with ganache icing (or maybe both if I have enough ingredients). Again, it's not urgent... I'm just hungry and really fancy some cookies and/or cupcakes :P.

Cookies bake pretty quickly and the dough can often sit in a fridge if not used immediately... I'd bake cookies ;) Ive been craving cupcakes recently too (probably because TJs was sold out due to valentines day when I was in the US) so I can't wait to get my shipping crate with all my kitchen/baking stuff!

Reminds me that I really should spend time on the kiddos baby books.  Poor #2's is blank... same as mine is to this day!

G&T time started at 4:20 today!   ;D

He'd better get used to it, the younger sibling is lucky to get any pictures at all!

Seriously.  I was telling him yesterday how sorry I was that he doesn't get much attention.  His sister definitely commands a LOT of attention.  Then I assured him that she will move out three years ahead of him and I will have time for him then.  :P

Tami, you are being too nice to me!  I couldn't expect you to carry a huge bag of grits like that for me.  You must have a ton of stuff that you want to bring back for yourself.  Please don't feel obligated. If the bags are full and you have to take something out, I'll understand.

Just read about "The Sledge"
WTF?   That doesn't even sound fun!  That sounds like something a 10 year old kid would brag about doing.

Just had a call from the engineer - he's 20 minutes away... fingers crossed for working heating/hot water soon, and a bill that's not too high!

It's not that big of a bag.

My trip here was 2lbs of clothing and 68lbs of sweeties, food, makeup and Irn Bru for the kids. I won't be bringing back anything close to that much.
