It's not that big of a bag.

My trip here was 2lbs of clothing and 68lbs of sweeties, food, makeup and Irn Bru for the kids. I won't be bringing back anything close to that much.

Your bag allowance is 70lbs?  What airline?  I swear mine was only 50 lbs.

Okay, but with that information in mind, if nobody else asks for anything, can I be really greedy and ask you to also sneak a regular Mountain Dew in for me?  Only if nobody else wants anything and you have room!  If it's at all a squeeze, make sure others come before me... I see the okra, and that really should be enough.

It's 50lbs for my checked bag and 20lbs for my carry on.

I'll see what I can do with the Mountain Dew. I'm bringing back a can for my step son so I should be able to fit in another one.

If you are nosy and want to see Grandma's house, the people that live now are proud of the history and might give you a quick tour.  I think there's even a sign up that says "Feel free to walk around the garden ".   My Grandmother was Elizabeth Dodd, not sure about some of those other names on the plaque.

Most airlines are 50lbs, though you can get extra allowances with the more expensive/different class tickets.

However, I’ve found BA are really good because even in economy you’re allowed:
- 23kg (51lbs) checked baggage
and
- 23kg (51lbs) cabin bag
and
- 23kg (51lbs) purse/laptop bag

As long as the carry on bags fit into the compartments/under the seat you can have up to 23kg in each.

OOOOOOH! Good luck Ksand! Hope they are quick! :)

Good news is that the engineer has come and gone... the bad news is, the boiler won't be fixed until tomorrow afternoon :(.

It turned out the problem is the gas valve. They have one in stock, but he can't replace it until tomorrow (though I'm glad it can be done before Wednesday as I'm working the rest of the week).

Oh boo.  Doesn't sound TOO expensive though?  Or am I just being optimistic?

Yep... has it been so long since Jimbo's been to the states?

Anyone else need anything while I am here?

Lyonaria will be getting some Barq's. I can bring back a few more special things if it's something I can find easily.

Only if you have room and are going near any of the following anyway. :) Tetra biobag tropical fish aquarium filter replacement for a Tetra Whisper 3i filter. Small size. Top Fin makes a filter that fits as well, and I think Petsmart carries them.

Walmart

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Tetra-Whisper-Replacement-Carbon-Filter-Cartridges-Small-6-ct/17056827

Petco

https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/tetra-whisper-bio-bag-disposable-filter-cartridges-small

Extremely lightweight and can certainly come out of the box.

Only if you're going to be nearby to them ;D.

Since this is the first time I've had to deal with boiler repairs, I'm not too sure - a quick Google search shows that the gas valve seems to be an okay price, and then the rest of the quote is the labour. Of course, I'd rather not have to spend anything, but at least I don't need a whole new boiler.

At least it was quick so that you could get back out and run your errands! And they now know what the problem was. Obviously it's not ideal but hopefully tomorrow they will be able to just easily come in and fix it and leave :)

Tami I would pay you handsomely if you found some ingenious way to bring back Baja Blast mountain dew. I don't even think they bottle it anymore hahah

I bet if she could coax Taco Bell to sell her a bag of the syrup mix for that, she could set up a soda stand and sell all kinds of it.  Make a killing.

Well, he's given me a quote for the whole thing and based on his mumbled calculations it doesn't sound like it'll take too long.

I've actually just had a call from him to say he can fit it today after all (he was waiting on a colleague, who has finished his job early today), so he'll be back in the next 30-40 minutes :).

Great news.  And yeah, nothing makes ones blood run as cold as the phrase, "The boiler is not working."  Just puts fear in us all about how much it'll cost to fix.

I may look into insurance for both of ours (rental and our house).  I know my husband thinks it's not needed...  I'm not so sure....

I always thought boiler insurance is yet another UK rip off.  Most boiler repairs are cheap, I'd imagine KSAND is looking at £200 or so and she'll be set for years, and she was sorted in a short time on the busiest plumbing day of the year. And if your boiler is completely broken they simply say it's too old and refuse to pay.  I'm basing this opinion on what I read in the Guardian Money pages but I can't claim special expert status.

I'm intrigued by it including an annual service, as we are required to have one on the rental property each year....  but I shall look at quotes later.  I also suspect it may be a rip off over time but AMAZING when it's actually needed!
