I'm back from the doctor.

Basically,  it is my anaemia causing this. My iron/ferretin level is a 3. He said it is shockingly low. (which I already knew but been waiting for my NHS referral letter.)

Every system in my body is running at full capacity to try and keep up but it's failing.  He could hear my heart working harder because of the "upflow".

So he's repeating my bloods so he can apply pressure to get my iron infusion done faster. He said I need it urgently but unfortunately the NHS doesn't do urgent unless you are dying.

And he told me not to bother with the prescription for the iron tablets I was prescribed because they will make little difference and cause me more intestinal problems. Basically,  I'm too low for anything else to work other than an infusion.

So I'm taking the rest of the day off work to rest and I'll go back tomorrow.  My bloods are on Tuesday.

And in the meantime,  nothing he can do about the swelling. Just keep my feet up as much as I can and wait.

Did he give you anything to look out for that would mean you need to go to A&E??

You don't necessarily need private insurance to go private, you just need to pay out of pocket. (Not always an option for folks, I know)

I do know the agony of waiting for the NHS when I've had horrible pain (and I too didn't have the option to go private), so I really feel for you.
Yeah... I make scraps for pay and just paid for 2 visas in the last year. Gotta just wait it out.

Shortness of breath (more than I have now from walking to and from work) or chest pain.

Any chance the hospital would do the infusion if you did go to A&E?
I asked this and he said more than likely not because it isn't immediately life threatening.  They would just send me back to him to handle it through proper channels.

PLease please please don't take any chances. If you start feeling what he told you to look out for, please go to A&E asap!

If he can hear your heart working harder it is teetering on that edge. Did they check your kidney function at all today? There's a cascade that can happen rapidly when your heart is working too hard :( If no change tomorrow and toes still going purple when showering I'd be in A&E personally, and that's living with multiple chronic things avoiding the ER as much as humanly possible. I'm sorry you're dealing with this though, I hope they manage it quickly once the bloods are done tomorrow. At 3 in the US they'd be sending you for a transfusion in the ER if your hemoglobin was also very low.

My IA for today... I was supposed to go to physical therapy in London. Bracknell shut down my bus stop with no notice, and didn't include a map to the one we are supposed to use temporarily.... So while looking it up, I missed the bus I needed. Then I found the stop but the only other person waiting had a 40ft cloud of cologne around him so I couldn't have even gotten on it with him, and by then realised I'd also missed the train I needed and gave up. Nothing like being out £90 because the jerks in the town couldn't paste a frigging tiny map with directions on their poster. I wasn't the only disabled person seriously inconvenienced by it either, because they also closed the side of the road the stop is on, and there were no curb cuts or cross walks without a lengthy backtrack.

The original mattress that caused this drama because it needed to be replaced was from John Lewis, one of the cheaper ones. It didn't even last 3 years! It was in such bad shape, and all the online reviews for it now are one star. So make sure you check those! I was shocked that it had absolutely no guarantee for how long it should last. My husband basically got all the cheapest furniture possible when he moved into his previous flat, and it was all falling apart by the time I moved over.

You made me nervous enough to double check the warranty on the one we just bought : 7 years.  Seems long enough.

I didn't find any bad reviews online either
Was yours a memory foam one?  Ours was pocket spring.  The one we are replacing is 16 Years old!

Ours was pocket spring topped with memory foam I think. I was genuinely surprised to see no guarantee at all! 1 year parts/manufacturing defects or something like that. I cant imagine them advertising a bed that bad in their stores so hopefully the ones on display there are much higher quality! Sounds like they are if it's 7 years.

But that was a lesson for my husband in always checking for those things. His couch is falling apart too, but that's not getting replaced til summer when I can keep windows open to air things out!

Not long ago our couch started falling apart as well and I was ready to buy a new one but the wife insisted we fix it cause she's smart.  We took the thing apart, including taking off some of the upholstery staples and saw the broken bracket.  We got a new  bracket from the hardware store and fixed it stronger than ever and nailed it all back together.  Our repairs are better than the original build on a sofa that was not cheap in the first place.

This one needs new cushions and it isn't big enough to lie down on. My one requirement for a couch is it has to be long enough!

Tami, how are you feeling today?
I kept my feet up all night and went to bed early. Starting the day with light swelling but I have to go to work at 2 until 8 tonight.  I will have the next 3 days off and I have plans to do absolutely nothing. (Which pisses me off because I want to be doing stuff and going places.)

I'm looking forward to getting back to myself again. I'm lucky in that regard,  I just have to hold on a little bit longer and I will be fixed. It's just getting to me emotionally as I've been dealing with side effects of the anaemia for awhile now but not realizing that's what was causing it. (Like my internal lack of temperature control. I freeze even in the summer. Winter is horrid for me.)

Sounds a bit better, but hopefully work doesn't wipe you out.

Yeah ,the emotional space of not being able to be yourself and to feel controlled by illness is the absolute killer.

I will continue to keep my fingers crossed for you that your letter comes quick.
