Huzzah! Pipes have been sorted! Radiator is on! Can’t turn the heat on until tomorrow because “there’s air in the system and we don’t want a pressure spike to blow a hole in the pipes” or something (I stopped listening as I was too excited to have running water again!)

I diiiiid walk into a biiiit of a rainfall in the kitchen.

We won't be able to put it on tonight just in case. Husband said not to use hot water tonight just in case. Thankfully I only need cold water to brush my teeth and I can now do laundry and dishes again!! There were a surprising amount of dishes needed doing from Friday until tonight!

I couldn't imagine my husband doing any DIY after the job he did replacing some caulking around the bath. Oh boy.

I can't even trust him to figure out how to eat the leftover chicken I left for him in the fridge. He didn't know how to eat it because it was in the jelled juice.

I figured he didn't know what to do with it when I noticed it hadn't been touched for a day. (He asked me to cook it for him. I cook a whole chicken then take all the meat off the bones)

Then later that day his Facebook status said, "Mrs H... what is going on with the chicken in the fridge?"

Well... how about take some meat out of the bowl and heat it up. Pretty easy.

Some days I feel like he is my young son and I have to teach him simple every day life skills.

Isn't it amazing how quickly the dishes pile up?  Even if it's just two people, it' very quickly turns into a small mountain.  :/

Our boiler was broken since before we bought the house.  We just have an electric shower for hot showers and baths, and we use a kettle for all other hot water needs.  When we redo the kitchen and bathroom, we'll have tankless/in-line hot water.  It will be nice to have hot water on demand at all the taps.  :)

In all fairness, caulking is kind of tricky business.  It's a job that requires finesse, and don't let the b-----ds on YouTube tell you otherwise.  They lie.  They LIE!  *shakes fist*

Oh gosh, I feel you there. My husband isn't used to using whole anything and saving leftovers. I'm glad I'm a good cook and my husband has the patience to deal with me when frustrated!

No... I don't mind it being a mess. But he didn't remove all the old stuff. He needed to remove all of the old caulk and just replace it. But he only took off part of it and was like "Good enough".

Oh.  Ooooh.  Okay, yes, you absolutely must remove all of the old caulk.  Was it water-tight after he finished it?  Did it work?

Well, the one side he did is but now I can see it pulling away from the wall again plus the rest of it needed to be done because it was cracking and nasty.

I bought him special tools and everything.  By the time I went to check on him, he had already recaulked the bad leaking side and it was too late to have him pull off the rest.

I have to be really careful of my criticism because I don't want him thinking I'm treating him like a child. I voice my opinion once and then move on. And I let a lot of stuff go for my own sanity. I can't let little stuff be my stress point.

Haha honestly I’m so lucky! My husband is incredibly handy and he has done SO much work over the last 4 days and it’s definitely saved us a lot of money.

He can also heat up chicken thankfully hahahaha but he does struggle sometimes with more basic, what I consider common sense things I swear! I just don’t get it!

Honestly my thoughts go out to you. I would be grumpy as *bleep* if I had to use a kettle for the majority of my hot water needs! We had an electric shower when I first moved to the UK and I hated it as the water pressure so so crap. Might just have been an issue with ours or something but my husband redid the pipe work in the flat we were in as well and I probably wouldn’t choose to go back to an electric shower again. I can’t complain. I’m pretty fortunate all around. There are people who would kill just to sleep in doors regardless of heat so I’ve totally just been a spoilt baby, I know it! On a serious note though, I am incredibly thankful (but it was a total first world IA) and when it’s all over, it’ll be super worth it - as will your kitchen / bathroom JF

I'm struggling with comparing him to my ex husband.  Ex husband could fix anything and actually taught me how to cook and do all things domestic.

My new husband does have the softest skin imaginable because of his very regimented skin care system. Lmfao.

I've actually been doing the kettle thing for the whole time I've lived in the UK... at the old rented house, we kept the boiler turned off most of the time. We only turned it on for about an hour or so in the late afternoon/early evening in the coldest days of winter, and for about 15-20 minutes before we wanted to shower to heat up one tank(?) of water for the shower.  Otherwise, it was kettles there, too.

The new house is an upgrade in the hot water department, because now I can take showers of unlimited duration.  Showers at the old house would be about 10 minutes, max, before it started to run cold and I had to get out (I turned the boiler off just before turning on the water).

Omg. My husband rarely turned the boiler on unless he was going to take a bath. We have an electric shower.

When I moved in I told him hot water was not a luxury where I come from and it won't be now. I gladly pay the extra electric for the convenience of having hot water.

Have a combi-boiler that creates hot water on demand. This is after years of having whole-building boilers, some of which had timers on them. (So, too bad if you had to be to work at7:00am - the boiler didn't come on until 6:00am and with an hour's commute....) I have to say, I'm LOVING this kind of boiler. Have to warn the Daughter to not turn on taps in the kitchen if I'm in the shower, as she'll draw the the hot water off (to be replaced with ice-water until she turns the tap off again!), and it takes forever to fill the tub, but it's wonderful!

nctami72 I sent you a PM a while back (10 March) about reimbursing you for the fish filters and with address and haven't heard from you. Did that msg go through?
