My IA- I have been really sick today and haven't done any work.  :(

That's great, PL! Glad to hear it was all sorted for you.  :)

I was told today that HR want to give me a deadline to get my visa by in order to switch from my temp contract to a permanent role....
My application was submitted just over a week ago. I don't think these people realise I have no control of when UKBA decides whether or not to give me a visa. Giving me a deadline won't do anything. I was even asked if I could call and explain my situation to see if they'd make my application a priority. Hah. ::)
But because of all this, it's looking like I might not be able to keep my job.

Thanks everyone! I was so upset, and didn't even realize how much tension and emotion I was feeling over it. I feel so much better to know it's all sorted out!

Glad your meds got sorted!!! How scary!!  What a fab guy!  Sounds like he deserves a bonus and some flowers himself!!

He really does! He was so sweet through the whole thing, and really stuck it to the company. He is brilliant at his job!

Small compared to everyone elses, but when I went to Morrison's tonight, they were out of vanilla extract AND there was no sign of saltine-esque crackers!  I feel so betrayed Morrisons!  I was assured you had them!   :P   ;)

That sucks.  I'm sorry you have to go through that.  :(

I know they used to have an Urgent Treatment form for HSMP (the predecessor to Tier 1).  I can't imagine they have it anymore, though.  :-\\\\

However, if your HR department is so concerned about it, I would explain to them that there is literally nothing you can do about it and suggest that they can call UKBA and talk to someone.  I'm sure the HR department of a company would have more sway than little ole you.  It's entirely possible that won't do a thing, but at least it might enlighten them to the wonder that is being an immigrant. ;)

You'll get an application reference number when you get your acknowledgment letter, which I think you should probably receive soon judging by your application date, so maybe give them that as well so if they want to they can attempt to follow up on the progress of your visa.

Also, perhaps you can discuss altering your contract, if it's an issue of it being permanent full-time when you're still technically a student.  Maybe the terms of the contract can define your job as a temporary appointment for x amount of time and then they can alter it once you receive your visa?  I don't know how possible that is, or if that's even the problem but maybe it could help?

Good luck!

My IA:  It's so fracking dark from all these clouds and it's ruining my ability to paint these drawers properly.

Is anyone getting bored hearing weather complaints? I would be glad to shut up only there was another 10-12" of snow last night. I checked email for MBTA alerts and they said all buses were running 15-20 minutes late. Well, since my bus route runs every 20 mins. at peak time I figured that would work out. I floundered out to the street (no sidewalks plowed) and plodded down the street -- in the dark dodging plows. I stood in the road at the bus stop getting loppered with slush and ice from more plows -- 40 Minutes!!!

I know I was one of the lucky ones, but the drive home from work last night in the rain/sleet/snow blew chunks. As a result, I'm exhausted today and all the boys want to do is go out and play in the snow... which is heavy, wet and cold. I just want my duvet and a cuppa tea.

Well, the landlord called last night to inform us that a painter will be here first thing Monday morning to paint the windows. Oh, and he'll need to have some of the windows opened periodically.

That's lovely, but I have glazing plastic put up---because the windows are ancient, drafty single panes, nearly rotted---and it's still buggery cold out. :(

When I called to ask if we could possibly delay it (bold, I know...) she said she couldn't because "He's very hard to get ahold of...and he's rather good." Mmmkay. Her house, I guess.

So it looks like DS and I will be back to wearing our coats inside again until the painting project is finished.

Deciding which urgent thing I need to do first today.

I absolutely loathe Michigan weather, we're supposed to get a LOT of snow Wednesday and that's the day Daniel arrives. I pray that it comes after he lands at 12:30 p.m. :(
