Yay!!

We're sleeping on a mattress for the first time in weeks. Just IKEA beds but  better than air mattresses. The good one was delivered today but needs a lil airing out (but it's not as bad as I expected) so life will be back to normal soon!

Great news :).

My IA at the moment:

I have static everywhere! I can't seem to get rid of it... my clothes are filled with static (every time I take off my fleece or a cardigan, I get shocks), which means my hair is filed with static too (my hairbrush crackles when I use it), and I have to pry my hair off my back where it sticks to my clothes... and then it sticks to my face instead.

I'm not quite sure where the static has come from - it started when I was in Gibraltar (probably from using the dryer) and I hoped it would go away when I was back in the damp UK, but no such luck.

I've been doing various internet searches to figure out how to get rid of it, which has included washing my brushes, wrapping my hairbrushes in dryer sheets, rubbing dryer sheets over my clothes, spraying hairspray on my hair/brushes etc... and while they work temporarily, about 5 minutes later all the static is back again.

Another tip I've seen is to let everything air-dry, but since I don't own a dryer, I already do that, and it doesn't seem to help.

Anyone have any suggestions?

You've probably seen this but it has a lot of good ideas.

Actually, I hadn't seen that one. Thanks, I'll have a read through it :).

That well and truly does sound like a proper IA! I would be super annoyed if it was permanent static following me around! Wish I could give you tips on what to do but I've not a clue :(  My approach would've been dryer sheets lol

I'm curious now about how you got so much static

That's great, we are just getting used to our new mattress as well.  It's super firm compared to the last one.

We ordered a medium one, cuz we're both side sleepers. It's so much better than his old mattress!

For static, this cold weather seems to be the culprit because the humidity really dropped. My slippers on carpet keep causing me to pick it up, I've shocked my husband kissing him so many times he flinches now with any kiss. :(

Sorry just catching up on all the other responses that I missed)

My husband and I do do DIY together...but I would NOT re-lay pipes etc. I am definitely not confident enough for that lol. Normally we do the DIY together but I've taken more of a backseat at this stage because I can't realllllly help him cut and replace pipes because it's a pretty delicate process and he's very exact about it all (you have to be or it will leak). Now that pipework is done, I can actually start helping (which we'll probably have tiles being done next after hooking up the fixtures).

My husband and I do DIY together, for the most part.  But I was in charge of replacing broken and unsightly tiles in the bathroom of the old house (it was a rental, but we had such low rent that we felt it was best to do the little repairs ourselves rather than call any attention to the place and make them realize they could charge us more).  We shared the job of caulking because we were both novices and we both knew we wanted it to look good (and provide a good seal), but we were soooo afraid of messing up.  The finished job wasn't perfect, but it was acceptable.  And now we are slightly less novice.

We have plumbing in our future.  We might hire that one out.  I'm not sure what my husband's plumbing experience is, but mine is about nil.  But he has surprised me more than once.

Yeah I will swap with husband for mowing the lawn, but I HATE weeding. I don't even love mowing the lawn, but we trade off almost all of the household responsibilities so I have to draw the short straw sometimes haha. We do have a lot of grass. I keep asking my husband if we could get a ride-on mower but our garden is definitely not THAT big (I just really would love a ride-on mower haha told him I'd do the grass ALL the time).

My family has some land in the US... we have gone through several ride-on mowers over th years to keep the homestead portion mowed and usable.  Even I like mowing when I get to drive around on a little 'tractor'!  It's fun.  But you need a big enough area to mow to justify storing the thing when you're not mowing.

My thoughts precisely haha and no leaks, so that's the added bonus (meaning it can stay on!). Our towel radiator in the bathroom gets RED HOT. I love it! haha I am basically a lizard so I huddled over by the radiator in our bedroom for probably a solid 10 minutes lol.

I used to stand against the radiator in our bedroom during my hour of heat... and for some time afterward while it cooled back down again.  It was lovely.

Great news :).

Do you use conditioner for your hair?  That helps me.  I was going to suggest the dryer sheets thing, but you're already doing it.  You could look into getting a grounding rod ("ionizing bar") like they use at facilities that handle explosive or highly combustible materials... like this  https://www.airtx.com/page/static-bars?gclid=Cj0KCQjw-uzVBRDkARIsALkZAdmJK9PwDkp1ab4taL05OaFTt0jDjRVpeaU5BBnxYXhjdyb3bSRJMz0aAquQEALw_wcB

Oh!  I just realized my number one way to reduce static is to avoid synthetic fibers.  I generally only wear cotton clothing.  Synthetics build up static for me.

I keep grabbing metal things before kissing my husband to try and get the static out I need one of those!

Don't forget that if you go for the ionising bar, you'll need a separate power supply.
From the link :

"The Static Bar, or Ionizing Bar, is powered by 6000V or 7500V Power Supply for Maximum High Speed Static Elimination."

I'd say go for it, a girl with a ice maker fridge and a 6000V power supply would be irresistible to most dudes.

Catching up on this thread. It's hilarious.

We use the kettle for hot water for our dishes. We don't have an issue with hot water thanks to solar panels ,it's just habit from the days when we didn't have hot water on demand.

My husband is great at DIY it turns out. He's loving it, having never had a proper chance to do it before.  And, once he starts a project, he has to finish it. He works non-stop until it's done as he hates things unfinished.

Laughing at the chicken leftovers........
