Man, just read this, EN. I'm sorry your night was ruined! What a jerk!

I can't believe that I still have not met Ace. I feel like I know him already! And that is the cutest picture ever. :)

You definitely need to meet him sometime. :) That was from his petfinder ad, so he's significantly more grey, but he still has the "someone's around who loves me, my life is awesome" life outlook.

I have my biometrics appointment this morning and I don't know if I'm going to make it. My train line has just decided to cancel half of the services, which means the few remaining trains will be severely over-crowded. I have panic attacks on crowded trains, and the thought of commuting this morning has already made me ill. I might call the customer service centre and see if the appointment can be pushed back a few hours - otherwise I really don't know what to do.  :-[

You can do a walk in at a post office, there are loads of locations across London. You will have to pay (about £16 something) for the 'convenience' but it's something to consider.

I might have to... I can't find a number to call about potentially missing my biometrics (or even to cancel the appointment). Will it be held against me if they see I've missed my appointment even if I get to a post office today instead?

Annoyingly, I had purposely scheduled for this afternoon knowing how rubbish my train line is, but they called me yesterday and asked if I could come in the morning. Typical for the trains to choose today to mess up!

No it shouldn't cause a problem, I'd just try to get them done on a walk in asap.

starts yelling at me to put my dog (who has done nothing but look apprehensive and move even closer to me) on a lead.

It wasn't appropriate for him to yell at you but I can understand being frustrated at dogs not on leads.  I find it really troublesome when a dog isn't on a lead and have known first hand some real horror stories.  That man didn't know your dog was very docile and if his dog is aggressive, he may have be concerned that something would go wrong.

For example, my sister dog is so lovely and wouldn't hurt a fly (my 3 month old niece regularly curls up and sleeps next to her) but the dog can get difficult to manage when out for a walk.  She is fine if it is just us or even other people but she gets very aggitated if other dogs are around.  She is huge and strong so it can be difficult to handle her when she gets scared.  When I am at my sister's, I take the dog out for walks every day and we ALWAYS run into this other dog not on a lead.  So I am left to contend with my dog bolting, this other dog jumping on me and the owner laughing saying oh she doesn't bite.  It is really irritating.  We ended up changing our walking schedule and buying a face lead to help but we wouldn't have had to if that woman had just get her dog in control.  It didn't matter that her dog was really nice.

Yeah, I get the frustration when you have a dog that you need to be careful of. Like I said, my parents have a dog-aggressive dog, and dogs (of any temperament) who are uncontrolled off-lead are very annoying since then you have to deal with the dog who's being aggressive and the other dog who's just being clueless.

A lead on my dog would not have made a difference, in this case, he was already walking 18" away from me before we ran into the other dog, and when he saw how crazy that dog was, it turned into about 3" away from me. If I couldn't control my dog at all times off-lead, I wouldn't walk him off-lead (even for 5 minutes).

Other people don't know this though and this is why people get nervous about dogs off-lead. Bad things do happen and people won't know if your dog is a goodie or a baddie.  You can even search this forum and anytime there is a dog attack, you have post after post of people sayign that all dogs should be on a lead at all times.  It is a common opinion.  Again, it doesn't excuse the guy yelling at you but it certainly is understandable that he wanted you to lead your dog.

Yeah, my objection was more to the yelling (especially after I went out of my way to stay out of his way) and rudeness, rather than the sentiment itself.

Just to echo this sentiment...my daughter is frightened of dogs and has been accosted by off lead dogs -- not bitten by vicious dogs, but approched by happy dogs looking for play and giving licks and was even knocked down (this was by a very small dog as well). So much so that she now even sees a dog off lead and she immediately wants to be picked up and it is very very distressing for her.

But I do agree that dogs should be on leads at all times (except in dog parks & your own (fenced) gardens of course) I wouldn't express it in the manner the man did.

Apparently some people have this weird terror of dogs thing, including super cute and lovable ones.

That would be me, although I'm not afraid of dogs.  I just don't like them.  I was bit in the face by a dog when I was in high school, and I really don't care to have anything to do with them.  I will not react badly if a dog jumps on me or comes up to me, but I would much prefer it didn't.  So I'm one of those people who wants dogs on leashes.

Yeah, that's fine. I don't expect everyone to like my dog (though he does!), and I don't mind keeping him at heel when other people are around. (I was being joking/sarcastic in the above quote, by the way :))

Thankfully I got there in time. I showed up 30 minutes before the appointment, as requested, and I didn't even have to wait. I was there all of 10 minutes, and the guy taking my biometrics was incredibly friendly. Good to know I could have just gone to a Post Office today if all had went to hell, though.

But I can't tell you how stressful it was getting stuck on the train halfway into London, sitting between stations for several minutes whilst wondering if I'd make it on time! Damn you First Capital Connect Thameslink and all the stress you give me!!!
