Oh no!!! That’s awful!!!  :(

at that point it was almost midnight and our rubbish bin was full for today's collection so even emptying it out meant storing the food in a bin bag somewhere until after today's collection and we needed to get to sleep as we're both back at work today (me on half day's from home and him on a full day at the office) so we were just like "f*ck it" and went to bed. Was not a fun thing to come home to for sure especially as the Eurostar was already running late and were really poorly organised yesterday.

Would normally be f**ked off at this point but it’s been a lonnnnggg and trying day already...just go in about 20 mins ago from a long trek back from Brussels to find that I have to throw nearly everything in my fridge and freezes out....had a power cut as some point between Thursday and today. Freezer was up to 23c. Totally a first world problem but we just spent more than we anticipated on this trip with my parents where we’re already ready for pay day and now I have to replace a pretty penny’s worth of groceries we had in he freezer (more concerned about all that meat than anything in the fridge). Also, my Ben and Jerry’s - which isn’t cheap (again, if that’s the worst of my problems, I’m very very lucky). Back to work tomorrow for a week of half day’s and some grocery shopping to do to replace a f**ton of now off food.....but at least I’m in my own bed...

I'm sorry, that really sucks! There can be a *lot* of money tied up in the contents of the freezer.
Would your home owners policy cover the loss?

There definitely was as we get a majority of our shopping frozen (like frozen veg and frozen chicken breasts, etc.). Already hurting for pay day so not looking forward to the bill for this one :(

RE the homeowners policy, I have no idea and to be honest, I hadn't even thought of that! I imagine not, but it never hurts to check. Thanks for the suggestion!

Good call on the insurance, I think I've had insurance that pays for food in the freezer.

Did you get caught up in the channel tunnel delay yesterday?  What a mess!  I ended up sitting in the parking lot at Ashford for 4 hours!
You know the delay is long when people start forming bands

delay is an understatement Jim! It was an absolute clusterf*ck at best!

The queue to go through to security was out through Brussels Midi station. I asked multiple staff members if we could be "too early" and get rejected (we were about 2 hours early for departure) and they both said no because by the time we got to the front we'd be going through.....then we queue for about 45 mins until we're closer to the front where a lady kindddllllyyy tells us we need to step out of line if we aren't for the train before us and that ours won't be ready for us to go through security until 7. My parents are in their mid-60's and they can't be walking around with their bags for HOURS. I said to the lady "Sorry, will we have to get back in the queue at 7. I said "....all the way to the back?? We've just queued for an hour.." and she was like "yep." EVERYBODY was pissed off. I wasn't pissed off at her because it's not her fault, but I was pissed off by the piss-poor way it was handled and the lack of communication. Had they had somebody outside going down the line OUTSIDE the terminal to tell the mile-long line to get out of the queue for now, that would've been fine....but instead they let us all lug our stuff allllll the way in and to the front before telling us. Even so, if I hadn't thought to ask staff, shame on me and I'd take it...but I DID ask and was told we were find to be in the queue etc. There was just no communication between them and no clear communication to us. It was a mess to say the very least! We got out of the line and when it opened back up, they tried to direct us to rejoin the queue at the back and pretty much everybody just revolted and jumped back into the front LOL I was like "I don't even care who I piss off at this point..." There was only a +20 min delay for our departure though, so not too bad. Coming home to the fridge was just the last bit of a bad evening that we didn't need lol.

Most home insurance policies have this as standard I think - its not usually an extra, so hopefully you are covered.

How did things go with insurance KoD?

My IA for today is strangers on the Internet. Or acquaintances. Everyone is always right these days and unable to see anything from another perspective. Bringing awareness to one issue while putting down another group is never ok, calling that out only results in personal attacks. Why can't we all just be good humans and care for one another and communicate with respect? I currently fear the Internet is going to be the downfall of humanity, even with all the good it does connecting people and services globally.

Spoke to Husband and he said for what we’d end up paying for a premium for the next 5 years, it just wasn’t worth it.

It’s no big it was just super frustrating at the time. It’s a totally first world problem to have and I should be thankful I m able to have so much food to replace :) I would feel worse if it was someone like you or KF who has specialty food for allergies but I’m lucky enough to have easily replaceable stuff

Our freezer is so small that there's not much in it I genuinely only keep real food, so it's all easy to replace. The dry goods are more specialty.

I would be sad to lose my Costco hotdogs that have been out of stock in the store for awhile.  Other than that, I'd be super annoyed, but could live.

I hate waste. It would take me a long, long time to get over having to throw out the contents of a freezer!
