Back from the hospital with a report.

I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy. I started the bowel prep on yesterday morning but actually stopped food on Wednesday so I could be a superstar patient!

The endoscopy was first and was absolutely the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life, including marrying my current husband.  (Told that joke to him. He thought I was going to say child birth. Lol)

Anyway... just horrible!

My nurse was absolutely amazing and she got me through 4 minutes of hell!

For the colonoscopy, I opted out of the sedation in favour of the gas for 2 reasons. I need to go to work tomorrow and I didn't want to be in recovery for 2 hours.

Anyway... beautiful, lovely gas turns me into a freaking comedic genius. Unfortunately, it also makes my normally mild American accent very heavy and difficult to understand. They didn't get my jokes... And they were brilliant!

But back to the colonoscopy. It was totally fine under gas but was unsuccessful because my prep failed.

So I've been referred for a large colon CT.

My next appointment is on the 17th.

And I will only have 1 day off of work in the next 2 weeks. We are moving to a brand new store on the 25th and all my labs techs are on holiday which leaves me to get my lab moved and set up. (Photo lab) I have store support but they are just going to be my worker bees. I'm being left in charge of all rescheduling and decisions. I'm totally fine with that as I used to be a manager at Walgreens, it is just a lot of work.

Then I'll be away to Amsterdam with my baby daughter on the 29th.

You promised me you'd do the sedation!!!!!!  TAMI!!!!!!!!  (I'm scolding you like a mother should).

At least you had the gas and air for the other half.

Glad it went relatively okay.  Sorry they weren't successful.  My dad had the same thing happen once.  He has no idea how the prep had failed.  lol!

All that and your prep failed (what does that mean, in delicate terms?)...?  So you won't learn anything from this?

Oh no :( that prep is NOT fun. I can't believe you weren't under twilight sedation for the endoscopy.

Good luck with the next two weeks... That's a lot to do in a short amount of time! Maybe it will get you a promotion in the near future ;)

I was going to do the sedation. They didn't try to talk me out of it. Just gave me the options and explained each one.  And it was totally fine!

I wish sedation was an option for the endoscopy because frankly, that was way worse! Lol

I drank 2 courses of prep plus 2 litres of coconut water and 4 cups of broth. It just didn't take very well. I'm sure there are more steps involved in US prep. Lol.

But they did take a sample of my stomach to check for celiac disease. I guess that is standard here.

Nope. Nothing else to be learned as most of my colon wasn't visible. Just covered in slime. Lol

There was no option for sedation for the endoscopy. Only a throat numbing spray.

And it was freaking horrible! Horrible! Horrible!

Oh, I feel for you. I've had endoscopes twice without sedation.  It's wretched.  Absolutely wretched.

The endoscopy is why my husband doesn't trust doctors anymore!  His was 8 minutes.  Doesn't sound long.... but OMG, that's a LONG time!

You're trying to gag and puke, but you can't.  You've got a torture device in your mouth to bite down on. Tears streaming down. You want to belch. You can't.  You can't move. Horrible.  Horrible.

That describes it perfectly. If it wasn't for my nurse, I would have not made it.

And KF... I thought it was the colonoscopy you were talking about with your husband! I had no idea and endoscopy would be this bad. I thought it was the colonoscopy everyone was concerned about.

Yup, my husband said his pillow or whatever he was own was soaked with tears.  And the nurse seemed surprised.  He was flabbergasted that she was surprised!

I've literally got anxiety reading this. I have a massively sensitive gag reflex as well so even the idea of something like that in my mouth alone is just UGH.

Literally the worst medical procedure I've ever had... including 2 child births, 1 c section, a boob job, brachyoplasty and an extended abdominoplasty.
