Our landlord is coming over for an inspection tonight, I don't know what they inspect but I assume it has to do with fire safety and just generally not destroying a flat?

My husband is freaking out and cleaning everything, after months of not doing nearly enough regular cleaning. But this means he broke the heavy guns, the chemicals that make me really sick, without even talking to me about it or trying any of the alternatives I have (like barkeepers friend). I had a lot I needed to do today, and it'll probably be 3 days before I can even go in the shower.

They will probably just be doing an inspection of the current state to make sure there are no major issues (like holes in walls, stains on carpets, general filth). I know it doesn't help now, but in future just know that they will probably be fine with the house looking "lived in" (I.E. not a sparkling shower/oven) as long as it doesn't look like you've got mold from lack of ventilation or your cat ripping up the carpets/causing issues.

Hopefully this will be the "come to jesus" moment where he learns not to panic clean all at once vs doing little bits every week...Unfortunately it's at your expense, not his, so hopefully once you discuss he won't be repeating this again in future as it's not really fair to you.
My, how time flies....

Can't you just throw all of that stuff out?

I usually held onto things like that for the "moving out" deep clean, but over here it's pretty clear you need to hire someone for that so I should just throw them out. When I'm not in a flare I can tolerate small amounts, but right now cuz of work sending me so far over the edge I have no tolerance at all. I haven't even been able to do a grocery shop in weeks.

I start CBT therapy again next week but I don't know how much it's going to help. The problems at home and work are really doing my head in, physically and mentally. I managed to forget my device pin, my password for the recovery email accounts, and loads of other things over the past week. I have been resetting all financial and daily use things just in case it was due to being compromised somehow, but it's just insane the impact this is all having on me. (I also signed up for lastpass after recommending it for years to friends .... amazing when you don't take your own advice!)

I got last pass for work and it seems like a good idea, but I haven't typed in the master password for weeks and probably forgot it.

Also, sorry to hear things are tough for you.  Don't feel bad about throwing away all of those chemicals that make you sick.  If I were your hubby and just couldn't remember not to do stuff that makes you sick, I'd be happy if you made it obvious by throwing out all the bad stuff and putting the good stuff at the front of the shelf.  Then I'd know to use the good stuff.

Hope you feel better soon!

It can even sound a bit like someone calling "help"!

I have heard fox calls, as there were ones near our old house, but this definitely sounded more like the peacock calls I've heard. And it was intermittent and didn't sound like the foxes. I could be wrong, but I have literally never heard this noise here before. 🤪

Weirdly, for being awake since 3.30 I'm doing pretty well.

My husband sent me an email today and used the word indivertibly.  Umm... that's not a word...

That's only a problem if he thinks it is a word!  ;D

My brain keeps trying to parse it to figure out in what context he would attempt to use it.  I know what 'divert' means.  I get the prefix 'in'.   Suffix '-ible/-able', sure.  But making it an adverb with the -y ending?  How does this word get used?

I'll take a guess:
"Honey, when you were indivertibly running to the nachos and queso buffet, you accidentally stepped on several small children."

We have been through this before on another thread. That may be what an inspection is in the US, but that is not the case in England and landlords should know the laws of the business they have entered.

As I also said on there, the inspection is only to see what repairs the landord must do, not to see how the tenants live. They don't have to clean and if they want to leave their skid marked underwear around, have  a loo that isn't flushed, cook cabbage just before the inspection etc then that is fine as a landlord cannot tell a tenant how to live, because every tenant "has the right of quiet enjoyment of their home".

Under English Housing law, they don''t even have to let the landlord have an inspection, but they then can't complain to the council that the landlord is not carrying out his/hers repairs, if they have not let the landlord look at the repairs.

The only requirement is that they give the property back in the same condition it was given in, less fair wear and tear. They don't have to clean their home at all during the entire tenancy, if they don't want to. They only have to clean it to the standard it was given in, when they move on.

And as I also said on the other thread, gone are the days of the landlords keeping what they like from the deposit as that was stopped due the rise of the "me too, buy to let" landlords, who failed to learn the Housing laws. That happened about 2007 I think? ATM,  most professional landlords are worried that these new type of landlords will bring in registration of landlords in England, as Wales has just had to do.

Hassle your tenant, and it is you who have committed the crime.
