Add me to the pile of hopeless and friendless.

After attending a parent-toddler playgroup for the better part of 5 months and still not being able to break into any of the cliques, I finally get up enough nerve to talk to a newbie this morning. Halfway through the session she disappeared into the loo and didn't come back.  :\\\'(

Oh and a nearby preschool that I was hoping to get DS into in September just let me know that his is now #37 on the waitlist. Holy schmokes. At this rate, this child is not going anywhere before reception.

I can't image doing something that incredibly rude to someone else  >:( Making up excuses to get away is one thing ("Oh, I'm sorry, I wanted to ask that woman over there on the far side of the room a question. It was nice meeting you.")  but to just run away and hide is awful.

My IA: Asthma.  I feel like I'm choking on something.

Grr.  Having someone not show up for something they're committed to do, and leaving me having to cover for them.  But I'm "too nice" to say anything other than "no worries, it's cool".  Even when I wanted to say, "no I can't help, you figure it out, 'Ms I have no time management skills'!"

My afternoon was terribly annoying. And inconvenient.

I'm making Nigel Slater's brownies for my friend's birthday this weekend. I just calculated the calories on SparkPeople.  :o  One brownie is the same amount of calories I eat in a regular dinner!

Well, I'm probably going to give her a pass. She's probably even more anxious than I am about being in new, strange situations. Her "flight instinct" was much stronger than mine, considering I'm still going to the sessions despite months of feeling like an outsider.

She spent most of her time texting on her mobile, so she didn't seem like she was very comfortable there in a first place.

But, yeah, it was a bit unsettling to have her just up and disappear like that.

To the boy who had to hold up his trousers when he ran for the bus - If you have to hold them up so they don't fall down around your ankles when you are running, maybe you should wear them with the waist at your waist, where they might fit you and you don't risk falling and looking like a bigger idiot.  PS can you tell your friend who sat next to me on said bus a few weeks ago and who had trousers that only started where his underwear ended that he just looked ridiculous too.  Thanks.

Oh I didn't need to know that!  :-\\\\

I hate that too - it looks just awful!

My IAs - Last night was DH's works night out, and my night to have the house all to myself.  When I got home, I discovered that DH had left the freezer door ajar for 24+ hours, so that means I'll get to spend my first day off (Friday) defrosting the freezer now & it hadn't been that long so it definitely didn't need it before.  Does now, because there's an enormous frost/ice buildup all over the top half of the freezer.  [smiley=bomb.gif]  (Why oh why can't he learn to push the drawers all the way in & shut the damn door all the way?!  It's the second time this happened in less than 12 months so I am not impressed.)

Then as I finally sat down to watch TV last night - whatever TV ***I*** wanted, being in charge of the remote, free of commentary on whether we should watch (whatever) or not...Virgin Media TV crapped out for the whole of Leeds & was still off by the time I finally went to bed.  >:(

My parents' nanny. She's perfectly nice, but so many of the things she does makes me go "WTF?".

Just now...
Nanny [to 2yo brother]: It's time to nap
2yo: tv!
Nanny: OK, you can watch tv if you nap.
2yo: [cries]
Nanny: OK, no tv, let's go pick up [5yo brother] instead.
2yo: OK, let's go.
Nanny: [turns on kid-friendly TV for 2yo instead, even though she's said in the past that she watches CNN at naptime b/c it bores him into sleeping]...all the while talking [to 2yo] about how you don't cry to get what you want

OK, so we give in to the 2yo, and we're now watching brain-numbing TV (my parents request they only watch sesame street if they have to watch TV, and limit that, too, nanny hates SS for some reason and opts for Nickelodeon, which seems to have barely any educational content as far as I can tell). How is this a win? How is this doing your job?

My stepdad wants to fire her, I think, except not to the point where he actually has to fire her. I guess the plan is to keep her on through June/Sept when the 5yo will (ideally) start kindergarden, and then shop around for options.

At least she's nice, but man, I do a better job for free (she makes 30k/yr), and I'm not claiming in any way to be a professional.

I am *so* sick of being followed and harassed by men when I'm just strolling down the street >:( Twice this week and one guy had the nerve to grab my arm twice even when I yelled at him to leave me the *bleep* alone!  >:( >:( >:(
