I’m so so sorry. I was going through this a few months back and I made the decision that I’m not going to quit my job without another lined up but I will also be looking. I won’t take any job for the sake of getting out but I also made it clear that those were my intentions ( senior management really did me over on something and it wasn’t my immediate peers or manager who did it they stood up for me), but I just had enough.

Ever since then I feel free. I don’t do a half arsed job or anything like that because I couldn’t be that way, but having made that decision for myself has made me feel ten times better.

I hope you find something better, as I know there is loads of places who will appreciate you and all that you can bring to the table. =)

I'm the same way that I won't leave this job until having another lined up and I don't mind waiting around for the *right* job vs what will just get me out *right now*. I have, however, stepped up my applying more aggressively. I got an email this morning for one I applied for on Friday asking for a phone call tomorrow so that's a good first step. Also, reached out to a company not hiring my skill set just now to send my CV and ask that they keep me in mind if something does become available as it's a company I'd quite like to work at (heard about it as my husband interviewed there a year ago and it seems like a place that I would fit in and really enjoy working)

Can someone explain what landlords are supposed to check in their 6 month inspection? Ours is here complaining because their poorly designed sink is getting mold on caulk pulling away from the base, where it constantly gets wet every time you wash dishes. As a tenant am I responsible for caulking? I thought this would be an opportunity to get notified. She is also telling us there's too much dust and limescale (which was cleaned just two days ago) and she has to document that in her report to the estate agent. What the hell? Are you not allowed to live in rental units here?

She sounds very unreasonable. You aren't responsible for caulking. Dust/limescale is also not an issue on a visit.

I lost it. I like the location of this house but I don't think I can manage this every 6 months. We have another 10 months on our contract. Making us sound like dirty tenants to the management agency who takes our rent so she can claim we didn't clean enough when we move out.

Even so, it would depend on what is in the contract in terms of cleaning and what is considered reasonable. Was there anything mentioned in the contract RE cleaning standard that you think she might try to catch you out on. if it's just "cleaning to the standard that it was when you moved in", just make sure you take photos when you've cleaned to show you've cleaned as that will speak louder than her claims (or, for peace of mind, you just pay somebody to do a proper full clean when you move out and keep the receipt as proof...but I think that can be potentially overkill...all depends on your lease). As I'm sure Sirius will show up and comment, your landlord can't just decide a reasonable amount of wear and tear/dust/limescale on the property justifies keeping any amount of your deposit (they would have to make a proper claim and I can't imagine they'd get very far).

Just sounds like your landlord might be a bit of an unreasonable nightmare.

This. Like I figured the inspection would be an opportunity to point the things that need maintenance (like caulk, cuz around a poorly designed sink it probably has to be done more often. Some of it was pulling up when we moved in and got worse with wiping away water). I wasn't expecting her to go around with her finger to point out dust we hadn't even noticed and could obviously clean in 2 seconds. She made it seem like we were terrible tenants for not keeping a professionally cleaned house 24/7. I understand the need to return it in good condition and yeah, that was uncalled for.

I wouldn't let her get you worked up over that. She wouldn't have a leg to stand on as far as a complaint goes for that as it's clearly her being unreasonable. I couldn't even picture being told when getting a new tenant "be aware, they leave dust in the house!" lol

That's just horrible and completely out of order.  I'm sorry she put you through that.  :-\\\\

To get that landlord back, you should be equally demanding about her responsibilities.  Demand a written and signed report of the inspection.  Demand written proof of the annual boiler inspection.  Submit a written request for the sink to be fixed.

I don't know though, sounds like a lot of hassle.  I'd actually just ignore her.  And tell her that you'll be out for the next inspection and she can let herself in and submit a written report to you later,

Kiss of Death, sounds like it's time for a new job.  If you are consistently being asked to work unpaid overtime, they are taking the piss.  And of course they would say you should wait 6 months for a raise for "reasons".

They don't ask me to do the unpaid overtime but, unfortunately, to make my own life easier, I kind of have to... If I didn't it'd mean more issues to come into the following morning and I'd fall so far behind just wading through emails. The business's stance is to just be able to block out time in my diary to study for certifications and to just go home when it hits leaving time because "things won't come crashing to a halt without me" and "it can wait until you come in tomorrow" but it ultimately just makes my life more difficult.

I am ready to move on to greener pastures I think though. Even went out of my comfort zone to email a business my CV in case they ever had job openings that suited my skill set because they are a company that I would enjoy working at. I don't expect to hear back but I thought I had more of a chance of hearing something by emailing than by not!

You must be feeling a little happier just knowing that you're actively looking for something better now.  :)

haha yeah it's just consuming alll free head space now as I don't want to focus on my own work, just the work that I could - at some point - be doing! lol If it wasn't too hard to make a career change at this point in life, I totally would (but the sacrifice financially would be too big of a dea)

Yeah that's a big one now but it's finding the time to get to a class to get certified. I work on a big government account at the moment so it's quite difficult to step away for training.
