I'm still standing this morning.  The girl's BFF has also been sick all weekend.  His little sister goes to the same nursery as my boy and she was also off last week.  BFF's mom was struck down overnight.  Fingers crossed I stay in the clear.

Ugh, soooo hard.  My husband is home with the girl today because he still feels like death himself.

Assuming I stay healthy, I'm off to the spa tonight.   ;D

After trying for months to get through to my obgyn's office about a procedure that I've been on the waiting list for, I got a note on Thursday night that I have an appointment on Wednesday this week. I spoke to them this morning after not being able to get through all last week, apparently because I just started a job and can't take time off for surgery immediately I will be discharged from the clinic altogether. No understanding of the other issues I have going on right now that would prevent me from having much pain management. I really hate how the NHS works, who can have surgery on less than a week notice?!

That's so strange. I could understand you being put at the back of the queue again or something like that but to discharge you for not being able to attend on a particular day??? Were they categorical about that? Did you speak with the right person?

Is it an out patient or an in-patient procedure, what's the recovery time? Would it be worth approaching your new job just to see what their reaction is? I know you were pretty impressed with their attitude towards your disability so maybe they will not have a problem with you taking time off, especially under the circumstances.

The first thing I would do though is call the clinic  back and make sure that you were correctly informed in the first place.

I wholeheartedly agree with all of this!

They are emailing the consultant and will get back to me, I got pretty upset when they said I would be discharged. I need to talk to them about the stomach issues I've been having because I don't even know that having the procedure (it's outpatient laparascopy, but still surgery under GA) is a good idea right now. They're referring me to London for the stomach stuff cuz I need doctors versed in EDS management. But I do need it, the amount of pain I'm having is getting worse.. Its just sort of managed atm so I can deal a bit longer, but not forever and will have to schedule it around the work meeting responsibilities.

Okay, Jimbo, non-health-crisis.

Girl was jumping on her bed today and getting yelled at - we are back to normal!

BUTTTTTT, yesterday we thought for sure she was going to need to stay home.  So grass man is coming today and my husband was going to show him our areas of concern.  And now he's not at home.  And I left prior to knowing he wasn't staying home so I don't have pictures.  Grrrrrr.

My grass may not be perfect for the summer now!!!  Agggghhh!!!!

Ha ha!

Cancelled grass man, he's coming Friday now.

And I spoke too soon.  School called and the girl is a mess.  My husband is now in the dog house for sending her back in too quickly.

Yesterday at work I had to deal with what I can only refer to as an arrogant old bastard. The politer way of putting it might be dangerous old Dinosaur...

I work at an aircraft design and manufacturer as a Safety Engineering Manager for a whole product line worldwide. In a former life, I was an advisor to the British government on aircraft safety. Day to day, I try not to carry that around too much.

This guy (outside of my dep and I've not had to work with him before) was giving me the whole "I am more experienced" (approaching retirement) gambit "so I know better". Trouble is, it quickly became apparent that not only did he not know better, he hadn't a clue about the most basic Safety Engineering practices and I have now noted that it's likely I will have to take over his work and throw it away. I politely smiled at him whilst not backing down from what I needed him to do and then walked off thinking "what a useless, arrogant, tw*t muffin".

It's become my understanding that in the Engineering world, some (not all) of these old guys are really f*cking dangerous because:

- They continue to use out-of-date, often incorrect processes and refuse to work with others.

- They think they know better than anybody else and will aggressively push to issue incorrect advice and analysis.

Not on my watch sunshine. Not when I have to sign it for it to be issued. I feel this guy could be a pain, especially when I rip this sack of proverbial right open next week...

Rant over, normal service resumed! Sorry for the French...

Thanks! I've heard of this happening to other young, up and coming Engineers but it's the first time it's happened to me personally. I think I dealt with it well then and there. We shall see!

Here's something that has been driving me crazy at work : Suddenly, anyone who does any work that is technical is an "Engineer", including me.  My degree is in Political Science and I've never had a class in Engineering, nor do I have any certification.  I think most of the people I work with are similar.

There's one guy in management calling everyone an Engineer and it's catching on all over. Every time I hear it I just cringe. Might as well call us gurus or geniuses.

They call the technicians that come to fix our photo lab equipment "engineers"... I object. They are technicians at best. Some barely know how to fix the lab equipment. It dimishes the advanced degrees that US engineers need to be called as such.
