OMG, that is taking the piss!

And every time they spot something new to complain about. For example, they found 70+ flourescent bulbs down the side of the garage - we didn't know they were there as it's a tiny space you can't really easily see down but they were looking as they're planning a big extension. This is fair enough and not outrageous of them to be concerned with (and our fault for being naive when we bought the home to not check this), but it then meant we had to take multiple trips to the tip to get rid of it all. More fool us because the people we bought from left loads of building type crap (like the bulbs) around the garden and we didn't realise we could do anything about it! (lesson we are learning now that it's all being picked apart and we're having to dispose of it all for our buyers).

This time, we gave them the option to buy our NEST off of us (£80 I think it what I put and it's only a few years old) OR we'd have a new one put in a new one. They've said to their solicitor that they are aware we're removing the thermostat (so clearly they aren't willing to buy it) so that's fine, but they want to know exactly what model thermostat will be replacing the NEST and want all the certifications from a licensed person for the installation of the thermostat. It's just ball-achey stuff like that every time they come around. Part of us is like "just leave the NEST to make our lives easier as we don't need this extra stress in our lives at the moment" and the other (pettier) part is like "no no, we'll get it all signed off and give them the shittest thermostat we can find).

I guarantee the longer this goes on where we don't exchange, the more they are going to want their builders around to start drawing up plans and the more they will spot new things we need to sort out (or money they'll want knocked off) and I just don't need the extra stress in my life. I was being nice before, but now I'm just annoyed and done with it so I'm putting my foot down to say no more until exchange (at a bare minimum....as I'd prefer no more until you physically own the place). Fingers crossed we get an update in the next few weeks with a clear exchange and move date as this is getting tiring.
My, how time flies....

I have a flat which is unoccupied and so I put it up for sale.

A buyer has been found and I am happy.  But ........

When you sell a flat you need the Managing Agent's Pack.  The Managing Agent has died.  Not a problem because there is another agent who is buying his business.  The second agent has now pulled out of buying the business.  The bloke who died has a widow - who has now gone into the office and taken all the files, deleting whatever she wanted.  The staff who worked there have now all disappeared.

The Estate Agent tells me that there is a queue to get a Managing Agent's Pack.

I am just leaving it all to the solicitor and Estate Agent to sort out and will keep my fingers crossed that the buyer doesn't walk away.

XOD, I would be tempted to tell them no more access. And the price just went up by £1000 and they can have the existing thermostat.

I don't even think KOD should have had to dispose of the lightbulbs.

Yeah, I'm afraid I would have instructed my solicitor to tell them the price goes up by 5k if I have to remove light bulbs.

I remember how much we wanted to buy our house once we had made an offer.  We would have put up with anything to get the house.

I was on the phone with HMRC this morning trying to get my tax situation sorted...not my favourite task! I've been resident in the UK for part of each of the past 3 tax years (I did a postgrad programme here in 2016/17) but had no idea I was supposed to file a self assessment return for them. I thought I was fine thanks to PAYE on my UK income - didn't realise I'd have to declare my non-UK income too. ::)

Luckily it seems like it should be pretty straightforward and easy to get sorted (and I'm very grateful I've found out now rather than later) but is such a pain! I'm always so nervous that I'll somehow do something wrong or miss something when it comes to official gov stuff.

Glad you're getting it sorted.  :) I find HMRC are more helpful and less scary than UKVI!

I think everyone is more helpful and less scary than UKVI! 😂

Seriously though, both people I talked to were SO helpful and patient. I'm slightly bitter that I had to pay for the phone call but the confidence that I now know what needs to be done is so worth it.

Why were you charged? You shouldn't have had to pay to call them.

The number they have listed is an 0300 number, I don't think those are free to call?

Although now that I think about it, I have unlimited minutes on my phone plan so it should be covered by that.

0300 is just like 0800, they are both free numbers.

Only just seeing these responses -sorry! (Did a phone change so not used to the tap talk notifications on android yet lol

Honestly, we know we probably did need to get rid of them once they were pointed out and we knew they were there as they are obviously old tech that can be harmful etc., but I can tell they're going to be the type to pick EVERYTHING apart. Like one of the toilet  seats is broken and they wouldn't have inspected it to know, but they'd be the type who would notice and demand we replace it and they will definitely be the type who will follow up if we don't leave the house with every lightbulb working and the house spotless as it says in standard house purchase documents.

It's our fault as we weren't this careful when we bought it. We just wanted the house and we were happy to just dispose of anything left behind because we were just happy to have the house we wanted and we were too naive to be checking areas like that which you don't easily see for crap.
