Reception at a Pub

So me and fiance and making the bare minimal for out wedding, since my visa states that I cant work til after I am married and the 2nd visa is approved, so we are goin g to have a VERY cheap wedding and have a proper one when financially its possible.  We are getting married at the registry office but for the reception I was thinking of having it at a pub where everyone can just dance and drink.  Are there any cheap alternatatives? has anyone had theres in a pub?

I don't know if anyone on here has had their reception at a pub, but it's not at all unusual for people to do that (pub reception) here in the UK! 

When we got married (2004), the Leeds register office was located in a horribly ugly 1960s high rise office building.  It has since moved to our lovely Victorian Town Hall, and I often see people having their wedding receptions afterwards at my favourite pub (right behind Town Hall) - The Victoria!

You might also check whether town/community or church halls will let you hire them out for an evening. This can cost as little as £50 for a night, and you can usually bring any food or drinks you want and set up music or have a band. I organised a friend's second reception at a church hall, and it cost £60 to hire, and we got the food from M&S (which received lots of compliments) for a couple of hundred pounds for around 50 people. I also went to a similar thing in another church hall where they did it as a pot luck and BYOB, which meant they only had the hall cost. Both were super fun!

We had friends of ours who did not have a disco, but did have their reception in a pub.  It was really fun and we all enjoyed it.  They even had it at a pub we don't normally go to and I think that was a good thing.  It at least felt different and did not feel like we were hanging out in our usual place only dressed up which I think might have happened if we went to a pub we often go to.

I hope that makes sense.  I'm in a strange mood today.   

ahhhh thank you for the advice, anyone know rough pricing of the pub?  reason I want it there cause the bar is already there and ppl can just drink , dance, and celebrate...not much setting up.

You probably just need to ring the pub in question & speak to them about what you'd like to do.  So many variables - are people going to buy their own drinks?  Are you going to have any food catered in?  Does the pub have a function room - is there a cost to reserve it?  Etc.
