Need help converting recipe to U.S. equivalents
« on: December 03, 2010, 07:51:37 PM »
Hello! I know there's a thread with a conversion chart "stickied", however I'm having difficulty with this recipe. (I'm not at all bright when it comes to numbers!). I'm in the U.S. and do not have a kitchen scale. Could someone kindly translate the following to cups for me? I've searched online and I'm not sure if I have this right.

I'd be very grateful!!! Thank you!!

100g leek, green part, trimmed and finely chopped -  (1 cup?)
200g carrots, peeled and grated - (2 cups?)
100g parsnip, peeled and grated - (1 cup?
50g orzo, cooked according to pack, or cooked rice  - (1/4 cup?)

I'm not good with numbers either so I use the online converter below.  I've found it to be useful.  It's not just grams to cups to, they have many others on there.

approx -

1/2 a cup leeks
1 cup of carrots
1/2 cup parsnips
1/4 cup orzo (that's a dodgy one, as it's hard to convert pasta, especially cooked from weight to volume)

to be fair, all of these are dodgy which is why I abhor the american cup method. I'd go get some scales if it were me...

x MWAH! Thank you, Thank you! You've made my life a bit easier, Cheesebiscuit! You're right -- I need a kitchen scale! I wish the U.S. would join the rest of the world and adopt the metric system. Thanks again!
