Yummmmy!  I somehow successfully baked gingerbread cookies this past week and that made start thinking about attempting sugar cookies.  I'll have to give these a try, thanks!  :)

Jewlz, egg white powder can be found at Tesco or Sainsburys.  Never had a problem finding it on the shelves in my area.

My husband buys Crisco for me in London or we get it online.  I have been tempted to try Trex and I do use it some baking, but I am quite concerned about consistency.  Crisco is really smooth, where Trex doesn't appear quite so processed.  That leads me to concerns over whether it will full incorporate into the sugar and if you don't, it will split later on.

Would be interested to hear whether it works for anyone!

anyone else totally miss Flora White? It was so like Crisco. I'm annoyed they don't seem to make it anymore.

It's been some time since I needed it for baking, so I haven't made a point of looking for it recently - but I could have sworn it's still there. I checked the Flora website and it's listed as one of their products, so perhaps your shop has just discontinued it, Cadenza.

I'd love to make these cookies, but I have ZERO patience plus unsteady hands (I was always rubbish at Operation), so the decorating is a waste of time.  :-[

Mrs C, I'm eternally grateful for this recipe.  I stopped making cut out cooking because they always came out like crap. Also thanks Racheeee for pointing me towards this thread.  I'd also like to thank the academy...  ;)

Oh I wanted to mention that I used golden caster sugar instead of zapping granulated sugar in the FP.  Not sure if that's what you consider superfine sugar.

If you look on my blog you'll see that my decorating is pants!  I used regular icing sugar, water and food colouring. Meh!  It was all I had on hand so I just made do.  Am going to pick up supplies I need while I'm out this week to make more- still have half the cookie dough in the fridge!

You are very welcome!  I am extremely pleased that the modified recipe works for someone other than me!

Truly be told, Lindy, I don't zap the sugar either.  I just use caster sugar and haven't had a problem.

BTW, the decorated cookies look great!  If you going for food colouring, look for paste rather than liquid.  You can usually find this in cake shops.

OMG, thanks so much for this recipe.  I'm totally trying it out.

I made holiday sugar cookies last year and they... um... weren't how I ever remembered tasting them before.

I'm definitely going to try this modified version.  I'll let you know how it works for me once I've had a go!

I just wanted to thank Mrs C again for posting this recipe as the kids and I tried it out earlier with fantastic results!  ;D  We currently have loads of Christmas trees, gingerbread men and women, bells, stars and snowmen everywhere in the kitchen and they taste good too according to the 6 yr old and 8 yr old. It's definitely a keeper, thank you again! :-* :)

Little Evo, I am delighted the kiddies like them--after all, they are the true litmus test of any cookie recipe!

Well, I've finished my cookie jag.  Learned some important lessons:

* Don't wet-on-wet white and black, even if you do use bright white colouring
* Allow loads of extra time if you intend on using disco dust
* Never wait this late in the season to try to pull off 120 sugar cookies--it's not worth it!

The photo doesn't really do them justice!

WOW, Mrs C! Those look AMAZING! I can't imagine how much better they must look in person! I'm an avid cookie maker and have always considered myself a whiz when it comes to making and decorating sugar cookies, but man! I bow to the master! :)
Let them eat cupcakes!
