DCF - Do we have to sell all UK property?
« on: December 15, 2010, 01:09:14 PM »
Hi all,

Firstly I must say UK-Yankee has been a great resource for various UK/US immigration issues over the years.  What happened before the internet?!?!

Anyway, I've scoured over many of the posts here in the Repatriation section and have found lots of useful information about the I-864 (US Tax returns, Sponsors, Joint sponsors, 125% above poverty line, etc) but my current worry is having to sell our UK home.  My DW (UKC) has lots of family in the UK and ideally we'd like to rent out our current UK home full time and stay with her family when we come back from the US to visit.-

Does anyone have any insight into this situation?  It appears from the US State Department website that you have to prove your intention to relinquish UK residency but doesn't specify whether your UK home actually has to be sold or if you just need to prove the intention by having a valuation and/or letter from estate agent confirming the property is on the market.  I also saw a post somewhere from another forum member with similar thoughts but had the intent to prove to the CO that the house was on the rental market.  I didn't think the CO would look upon this favo(u)rably.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
