Christmas Day travel from Airport
« on: December 15, 2010, 08:42:03 PM »
I was trying to map out travel from Heathrow to Docklands on Christmas day and saw a note that all public transport is closed.   ???  Any suggestions?

Thank you

Your only option is going to be a cab which will be close to 100 GBP. Sorry I dont have better news :(

I would check National Express, Heathrow Express, and really any bus company that goes from LHR to central London.  One of them is bound to be cashing in on the limited options, and while it might not get you to the Docklands, you would end up with a cheaper cab ride.

Heathrow Express is only running buses and its 20 GBP so its not going to save a ton going to Paddington because that puts you way in NW London to get to SE London. From what I understand, there is no train service at all in London on Christmas Day that goes even near the Docklands.

Also, I believe there are rumors of a tube strike on Boxing Day, so keep that in mind for any travels after the holiday if you are in London.

You can book a minicab much cheaper than pick up a black cab at the airport, never pick up a black cab from the airport!

I use Airport 1st  -

Yeah, black cabbing is absolutely the most expensive way to go. Paid £50 from Earls Court a couple of years ago.

If you've got an early flight, and are hard-core about saving cash, you can take the tube on Xmas Eve and sleep in the terminal. Yeah... it's kinda desperate sounding... but they keep most areas pretty warm in my experience.

I think the OP is arriving in London on Christmas Day so this isnt really an option.
