Payment method?!
« on: August 25, 2004, 05:18:16 PM »
Hi all,

All I have left to do now is figure out the payment method for my DCF application...  However, I'm finding it difficult to get a US Dollar Money Order!  My bank is quoting me over a week to get an International Money Draft, but I want something a lot quicker (like tomorrow!)...   So, how has everyone else handled it??

Thanks!

S.

We paid on our American Express card. They take credit cards, there is a form to print out for filling in details. Seemed easiest for us!

Hi,

Thanks for the response :)

Is there any other way of doing it if we dont have access to a credit card?

Thanks!

This is what the embassy's website says (I assume you're talking about the I-130 application)

Filing Fee: The fee for filing an I-130 or an I-360 is $185. The fee is payable by U.S. dollar cashier's check, U.S. Dollar money order, or International bank draft made out to the U.S. Disbursing Officer, or by Credit Card, Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Discover or American Express. Do not mail cash or personal checks. Please print your name and complete address on the back of the remittance. If payment by credit card you may download the form from this website and attached the completed form to the petition (on top).

BUT - I don't know where to get a US$ cashier's check or a US$ money order, or International bank draft....

Go to your bank and ask at the information desk.

Hi all,

I finally got it.  I had asked at my bank prior to posting here, but they were quoting a one week lead time!  Finally I called my sisters bank (HSBC) and they were able to do it within 30 minutes for her :)

For anyone interested, it's called an International Bankers Draft and if you are converting less than £100 the fee is £15, but anything over that the fee is £20.  Unfortunately, due to todays conversion rate of 1.7727, the total came to £104.36 (for $185 USD), which put it just over the threshold.  So basically it cost me £124.36!

Thanks!

S.

So is the total cost $520? ($185 filing fee, $335 interview fee). Plus £125 medical fee. That's quite a bit more than the UK spousal visa!
