FYI
She made it with no problems, YAY for Christmas!
Per JEP:

We have finally arrived safe and sound in the states. No problem or charge for fixing my ticket, we sailed thru security. It was too good to be true. The plane was delayed by 3 hours. But we still made it. Sailed thru immigration.

Yes Thank you all...I got to Heathrow yesterday and the guy at the counter didn't seem to know what to do. So he didn't look at my marriage cert and processed my ticket anyway without charge woohoo and just told me to take my marriage certificate with me thru the airport..we sailed thru security no problem..our plane ended up being delayed by 3 hours which was nothing compared to one girl on our flight who had been at the airport for 7 days..so I felt lucky..we got into Philly and I took my husband with me thru the immigration line. But while we were waiting the sniffer dog took a liking to his bag. (The first thing that went thru my head is what they do on UK Border Force -strip search for drugs lol) But the woman looked at my husband and probably ascertained he had never used or saw a drug in his life and asked him if he had fruit in his bag..he had a banana in his bag he forgot about...so she confiscated it. As we were getting our luggage off the carousel the dog came after his bag again and he looked at the lady and said you already got my banana..she laughed and hen left...so all in all it was a good trip..and thank you all for your support and encouragement....
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

And thanks Chilly for posting my update  ;D

My recently-divorced mother visited London over xmas, travelling in her maiden name but with her passport in her married name. She carried the legal documents showing the name change and had no problems, in spite of the massive warnings all over the websites of the airlines (she was on Virgin).

Not to say that this means it's ok, just more anecdotal information. Maybe the rule changes are still new enough that most airports/airlines don't know to enforce them yet.

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but have a somewhat similar question. I'm a USC, and my official passport page is still in my maiden name, however I did have my passport "amended" to show my married name. I've traveled that way to the UK and a few other countries, but I that's been awhile ago now (its probly been 2 1/2 yrs since we went back to Britain). The "amendment" shows up on the backpage and is basically a type-written statement saying my name is now X Y Z.

Is this likely to cause a problem, given there seems to be a recent crackdown? I vaguely remember back in 2005, a Continental airline check-in agent in Glasgow making a snarky comment like "Oh, you're one of those", when I had to tell her the passport had been amended on the back page.

I don't think you'll have a problem with that, if it's been officially amended then the name has officially been changed.

I had the same sort of thing with my previous passport only it was ex-married name I'd got the passport in then amended to my maiden name.  I put a small post-it flag on the amendment page so IOs and check in staff could find it easier.

I found that I had no problems having my married name on my ticket and my passport in my maiden name. I just showed my marriage certificate and it was fine.

So I am sure you wil l be ok Sunflwrgl and if you are worried bring your marriage certificate along with you...and ignore the ignorant person at the continental desk. I would have personally called and complained about how I was treated. What did she mean "one of those"...did she mean she is jealous that you are married and in love and she probably has never had a boyfriend...sorry I just get upset when people make comments...

I flew with US Airways who merged with Continental and no one gave me any problem

Good Luck
