US - UK Bank Accounts
« on: December 28, 2010, 11:13:24 AM »
My US bank has now just announced it's ending its free checking accounts. I use this account primarily for paying my US student loans and for when we travel back to the States. Does anyone know of a dual account where I can pay in ££ and it pays out $$ - and hopefully not something extortionate. We're not sure the next time we're heading back to the US so it looks like we're going to have to take of it from here.

Yes but that's a US-based bank. There is some advantage in having US dollar account in a UK bank. It's easier to pay in US dollar checks (without paying fees) and transfer pounds to/from the account. Also, I think it would be hard to open a new US account without a US address. Citibank UK is not unique - other UK banks offer this.
