Chex Mix
« on: December 30, 2010, 09:10:00 PM »
I don't know how in demand Chex Cereal is or if this is old news but I was in Tesco yesterday and noticed they now have it. It was the Tesco's Own brand and they had the wheat and rice flavors. I remember a while back somebody posted about making Chex Mix, but couldn't find the Chex Cereal so just thought I would let it be known.

My semi recipe for the UK
Chex Mix minus the Chex Cereal

3   cups Cherrioes cereal (each cup is approx 30g)
3   cups Shreddies  (each cup is approx 30g)
3   cups Wheat cereal – I used Wheatbix little bites  (each cup is approx 30g)
1   cup mixed nuts or just peanuts
1   cup bite-size pretzels

6   tablespoons butter or margarine (3oz/85 grams)
2   tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (1.04oz/29.5grams)
1 1/2   teaspoons seasoned salt (.219oz/6.2 grams)
3/4   teaspoon garlic powder (.109oz/3.1 grams)
1/2   teaspoon onion powder (.073oz/2.06 grams)

Oven Directions Heat oven to 250°F (120C) . In large bowl, mix cereals, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips; set aside. In ungreased large roasting pan, melt butter in oven. Stir in seasonings. Gradually stir in cereal mixture until evenly coated. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Store in airtight container.

Seasoned Salt you can’t find here I don’t think...You can use celery salt and a bit of the below seasonings.
To make a seasoned salt – GREAT on chips, chicken, burgers just about anything
Ingredients
•   2 tablespoons salt
•   2 teaspoons sugar
•   1/2 teaspoon paprika
•   1/4 teaspoon tumeric
•   1/4 teaspoon onion powder
•   1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
•   1/4 teaspoons cornstarch
¼ teaspoon = 1.03 grams
½ teaspoon = 2.067 grams
2 teaspoon = 8.26 grams
2 tablespoon = 24.86 grams

I made the sweet & savory version this year.  With modifications.

I used only 1/3 cup of margarine, pretzel twists, cheerios and shreddies, no golden grahams but it was still very yummy.  But I would love some rice chex!

I found Golden Grahams at my Tesco in Stevenage. They made a comeback in late 2010...haven't looked to see if they are still in stock but check your local Tesco.

I'm dying to make some puppy chow but I cannot find any Chex cereal anywhere! I looked in the Tesco by me and there wasn't any. Wish I could find something similar!

Puppy Chow?  ???

It's chex covered in chocolate, peanut butter and powdered sugar. Basically the dessert of all chex mix!

Has anyone tried them?   Do they taste the same as the US version?

Bought a UK box today and compared it with a US one I had.
After eating a handful of each,

UK- not as sweet more salty
US- very sweet and not so salty.

I can taste the difference.
