yep it is pricey......mostly very wealthy retired folks on there.....guess they dont much care about a budget.........there are other costs to consider also as in transportation and hotel to brooklyn to catch the ship......maybe they are wanting to eliminate the kennels hence make it so expensive no one would want to book one.

Or maybe split the kennels up into tinier kennels so only rich ladies' little tiny pet dogs can fit on board...then double the price again.

(thing that appeals even more about the QM2 is that I live in friggin Brooklyn...and my destination would only be 10 miles from Southampton! AGHHH :P )

WOW that's really messed up about insisting that cats have 2 kennels.  :o I took my cat over on the QM2 in 2009 for $300. Our cat had an upper kennel and he had PLENTY of room to move around. We went to visit him 4-5 times a day and we took him out and played with him in the room on the side for each visit. Not a chance in heck I'd pay $1,000 for that. All 3 of us got to the UK for $2100.
01 March 2009: online application
13 March 2009: biometrics
16 March 2009: submitted documents via FedEx
18 March 2009: Tier 1 Approved (NY consulate)
18 June 2009: Tier 1 start date
29 August 2009: Arrive in London
22 April 2010: Finally got a job

im guessing that they opened up the kennels.....in one upper kennel there isnt much room after putting in a litter box....i had two upper kennels that we opened up....after i put the beds in and water bowls there was just a small area for moving around.....also on our trip over someone had their two cats with one litter box.....they had two kennels and opened that up......it was perfect in size.......i think it really just comes down to what you gotta do for your animal companions.....some dogs/cats just arent able to make a flight over.....no matter what the cost id have to pay it........really no matter what route one chooses to make its gonna be pricey.

How far in advance did you make a reservation? Like i mentioned before, booking anything through Cunard even a year in advance is almost double the price as opposed to waiting and booking on Expedia. Now that there is a 17 month waiting period for kennels, it's just out of the question. I can't pray for a last minute cancellation.

So the plan is QM2 for myself and all the luggage (can get a stateroom for total of $1300-$1400 and split with a friend), and fly Iceland Air with the cat. Still works out cheaper than having to ship stuff.

It most likely won't be until 12 months from now, but I'll bookmark this thread.

if you have any questions about the QM2 ill be happy to answer them for you

I will be moving back to the US (Boston/or New York/Newark) next July with my 32 kg dog.  I have considered the QM2 instead of flying.  Was being in the kennel on ship for longer more stressful than the hours in crate on on the plane?  Who knows?  Any comments welcomed.

absolutely not.......you are allowed 5 visits per day.........the dogs are let out on all visits and can go out on the deck and there is a room on the side that they can play in too......chairs in there for adults to sit.........please feel free to ask if you have any questions.......its my understanding that there has been a price increase........they also stay very booked up so be sure to check on that asap
steff
