I wrote "Indefinite" and in parenthesis, something like, "Spouse visa valid until [date]; will apply for ILR as soon as eligible."

I don't know if there's an official thing to say, but the IO didn't have a problem with how I worded my card.  If there's a better thing to say, I'm sure someone will be around soon who can advise you better.  :)

I just flew back in to Gatwick yesterday and they checked my fingerprints to my biometric card. I thought that was a good idea to confirm my identity. They have never done that Heathrow, which is where I usually fly in and out of.

This is a new process (announced last summer) that is being rolled out to all points of entry:

When I arrived on my fiancee visa, I had written "indefinite" on my landing card, as even though the visa is good for 6 months, the length of my stay will be indefinite as I don't have to leave to apply for FLR, and I do indeed plan to stay in the UK indefinitely. The IO kind of crabbed at me that I should've put 6 months, as that's when my visa expires, but she let me go on without having to write another one.
Fiancee visa approved 17 Dec. 2010
Arrived in UK 23 Dec. 2010
Married 26 April 2011
FLR(M) application posted 17 May 2011
Received Biometrics letter 28 May 2011
Biometrics done 8 June 2011
Biometrics Residence permit received 23 June 2011
SET(M) application posted 6 June 2013
Biometrics letter received 22 June 2013
Biometrics done 28 June 2013
Received my documents and letter that my BRP is being issued 6 July 2013
