*sigh*  We simply can't afford holidays away anywhere except for camping (which I don't really enjoy that much anymore, especially when we camp with other people) and our Ireland holiday in the summer which is usually all or at least half-working holiday.

Have you two thought about letting a cottage somewhere on a self-catering holiday here in the UK?  Those are the cheapest ones we do - drive to wherever it is, plan/take all our food, and pay for the cottage fee.  Also, if you had others to split it with, it'd be even cheaper!

Well I'd love to do a self-catering cottage--it's the perfect vacation--maybe in the Dales somewhere--but I just assumed we couldn't afford it.  I'll look into it now.  Don't know how I'd feel about sharing with another couple.  His friends are all super fit and I don't like struggling to keep up with them when we go out hiking / walking.  It's just not fun.  But when we're on our own, we go at my pace.

Yeah, but if you rent a cottage together, you could stay in & cook or read or sit out in the garden/by the fireside - whatever you like, and send the rest out walking for the day.  Cottages can be surprisingly affordable if you try during non-peak times.  :)

We rented a really nice place on the North York Moors over New Years (peak time) for just under £600.  (There was room enough for 4 there, so had we split it with others - it would have come out to less than £300 per couple.)  But we've rented a place previously in Cornwall for less than £400 & Cornwall is more expensive than up here!  I've seen rentals for £200-300 for the week at off-peak times.  It's cheaper per night than B&Bs, but more than camping - obviously.

My OH and I are heading to India to visit with his family in March.  We go to Amritsar and Delhi for two weeks.  I'm hoping that we can do an alone tourist thing this time and go to Jaipur, where we've both never gone.

In June, my dad & step-mom are visiting and we'll spend a week in Cornwall with them.  I have to research cottages/self-catering places that will take a large dog, otherwise we'll leave him with the dog walker.

Off to Bath for a weekend at the end of Feb. Trying to squeeze in a quick trip to Spain sometime in Jan or Feb. No plans beyond that yet, but possibly Paris a bit later on. I don't go anywhere in the summer because the English seaside is the best place to be!

I'm starting a new job on Monday that is part-time, so we'll have to see what my holiday time is like and if I can get the time off that dh already has off.

If I can, I'm thinking a cottage in the highlands of Scotland because I love them or possibly Ireland if I can find one I like.  Unfortunately, it's all dependent on when I can get some time off.

We were supposed to have had a relaxing holiday in Ireland last week, but the flu descended upon our household just after arrival and made for a pretty miserable time. I want a holiday do-over!

I'm considering flying back to the States with my son in March. The fares are pretty good right now, but honestly I'm totally CHICKEN when I think about making a 15 hour plane journey alone with him. He's almost 3 and *extremely* excitable when it comes to travel.  ::) It could be a very unpleasant journey if he's not cooperative.

My BFF just found out she is being laid off in two weeks, so plans for Ireland are definitely on hold.  :-X :\\\'( Hope she finds another job soon!

Meeting my friend in Barcelona...tomorrow!  Just for the weekend, but I've been there before so I feel no pressure to go out and do anything too touristy, just eat and drink.

With so many places such a short distance away (meaning Paris/Rome/Barcelona/etc. are much closer to England than to my US home) I've wanted so much to see places I'll probably never have another chance to see.  But...   DH is not fond of travelling or spending money.   ::)
I have planned a 3-day trip to Edinburgh at the end of this month.  And 3 weeks after that I will be heading 'home' for good.  Then my travels will probably be limited to annual trips back to this 'home' to see DH's family.
Wouldn't it be great to win a massive lottery and have the time and money to visit anywhere at anytime?   :)
